Hello, I hope someone can help.

My mom's Polo needs to have some work done, I have scanned in the quote, I am not sure if this is a good price or we are being ripped off. It's using original parts.

For clutch and cambelt, original parts, I would say it's not bad. Dealership?

Yeah.
They are ripping you off for sure. You can save a lot of money if you buy the parts yourself and just pay for the labour.
But wouldn't I be buying the parts from the dealership that is doing the work?

A private mechanic quoted us around 13k

Almost half of that quote is labour; you won't save much by sourcing the parts elsewhere. Looks pretty reasonable for clutch and cambelt, frankly.

Via VW dealership I had to pay 8k when the clutch and flywheel was replaced and 8k when the cambelt was replaced. So, still not bad for a stealership.

What most people fail to realise is that car manufacturers get their parts from the same company that sells to shops like Midas, Autozone...

When I had the clutch redone on my Audi, I bought a complete clutch kit from Midas for under R400 and only paid for the labour at my local VW which was something in the region of R1500.

I guess those prices are OK if you are used to getting screwed over.

thats not a bad price yes but just to expand on Dom1n8tr1x's point

I have a Opel 2.0l 16v GSI, the clutch (R1800 for SACHS) takes me about two hours to replace without removing the gearbox and the cambelt costs R300 and takes about 20 minutes to do.

VWs are supposed to be cheaper than Opels.

Get quotes from goldwagen delarey

and half of that quote is labour, ridiculous

That's not a bad price considering the labour involved. If you want to save a couple of BOB buy the original parts and get a reputable indy with lower per hour rates (who'll take the same amount of time ideally) to do the job.

Looks redokuslously expensive

Parts should cost maximum R3000

Labour R2000

Look for a good idependent Vdub specialist.

My honda accord cost R4k for Full Clutch replacement and flywheel skim. Granted i imported the parts which saved me R2k

From 1 of the top Honda Mechs in the country

. . . and sell at +/- 400% profit.

Example:
Breather pipe for Audi A4 = R420 at Audi. R149 at Goldwagen

Tempreture sensor = R350 at Goldwagen. R99 at Midas

Pays to shop around.
