Car Sound System Upgrade

I was at the Renault dealership today to ask about the speakers. I wanted to know the easiest way to open the cover so that I can replace it with better speakers. The technician informed me that the warranty will then be voided for the Media Navigation head unit as well as all wiring and speakers included in the sound system. I just want some better speakers.

That's just stupid.
I'm pretty sure i've read that the Renault dealerships in other countries actually do the sound upgrades for you.
Did they mention that the warranty will be void is you do it yourself, or as a whole, regardless who does it ?

They said if any of the factory speakers are removed and/or replaced it would result in the void of the warranty on the head unit (MediaNav), the wiring, and the speakers of the sound system.

Perhaps we need a second opinion.

I've just sent Renault SA an email. Let's see what they have to say.

hmmm. Looks like the standard Media Nav only has 4 x 20w output, while the R-Link has 4 x 35w output.

I added an amp and sub to my ST. Using the stock speakers, sounds ten time better now. Took me 3hrs or so to do

Just put the new ones in and keep the old ones in case there's an issue anywhere. Oh and don't cut anything!

+1 - if anything were to go wrong it would be with the head unit / nav system and they probably wouldn't look in the doors for speakers to point that out as the problem anyways....

Ok, so emailed Renault France.
They replied and said they would forward my query to the relevant department.
I then received an email from (I assume a local Renault rep) stating the following:

Good day Mr .......,
We acknowledge your query regarding sound upgrade.
Kindly refer to your nearest Renault dealer, they can arrange for Rockfort Fosgate or Caska audio team to come and install.
Please use the link provided for a dealership near you: http://www.renault.co.za/FindAdealer.html

I'll try my local Renault in the morrow and revert.

Why are you going directly through Renault? They'll probably charge a fortune.

To maintain warranty, likely.

Yes, to retain warranty.

Like Roobir was told by the dealer he visited: "They said if any of the factory speakers are removed and/or replaced it would result in the void of the warranty on the head unit (MediaNav), the wiring, and the speakers of the sound system"

If Renault don't allow aftermarket audio installations without voiding your warranty I'll be sure to never buy a new Renault as long as I live. That's unacceptable.

Bought a demo Clio from R21 Renault in early 2000's. It came without aircon. Salesman told me "Will drop price by R3K so that you can have aftermarket a/c fitted". No problem I thought. Took car weeks later to an aftermarket aircon installer in Edenvale. Owner there warned me as I was booking car in... "Must be sure that you know that you will lose your entire warranty if we drill even one hole in your car as that's Renaults policy".

Long story short: Traded car back in with them for another vehicle that did have a/c. Was a fight to get it sorted.

Thread necro, just got a Megane 3 GT Coupe 2015 model 162kw, nice car but the sound system is a disgrace!!!

Looking to upgrade, budget is around R12k. Won't replace the head unit as the design and shape isn't going to be replicated by a 3rd party head unit but definitely the 4 130mm woofers (2 front 2 rear) and 4 tweeters (2 front 2 rear) must go, but with what should they be replaced?

Will install a 4 channel amp, possibly Kicker CXA300.4 and need a sub of some description, one that won't completely cannibalize the already modest boot. Was thinking Kicker CompRT12 12"?

Anyone else got feedback re Tremor audio?

TIA

I have that amp in my old beetle but it’s only driving 2 pioneer 100w rms 6x9s and a small 300w subwoofer. The clarity however is really really impressive I really do enjoy the sound. For a small sub I’d get an active one that goes under the front seats. Kicker makes one and so does pioneer.

Congrats on the new car!

I had Alpine Type G speakers fitted to my first two Meganes. They were great.

Tremor Audio has closed down as far as I know.

Thanks. Enjoying it a lot.

Gees man, you sure they gone? Their web page is still up. I mailed them. But their product inventory looked rather bare so possible that they gonners.

I'd ask the dealer I purchased the car from for a referral but I'm not trusting of these guys.
