Anyone know where I can get car sound online?

I'm looking for the follwoing.

12" Sub with DVC
1000watt monoblock amp to run it
JVC DVD player without the screen (reason is so I can fit 60 CD's onto 1 DVD in MP3 format)
Set of splits, preferably RF/MB Quart or similar.
600-1000 watter to run the splits.

Not looking to spend more than 7K.

And why is that?

JVC DVD player 1999-00
Pioneer 306 DVC sub 699-00
2000 watt 4 channel amp 1850-00 (1 bridged for sub and the other 2 for splits)
MB Quart splits 1950-00

Total 6498-00

I have MB Quart splits in the front of my car. You won't regret that decision for a second.

Try autostyles.co.za they updated their site so you can buy stuff online now. Plus they're very helpful..car audio online is scarce is SA :(

Sweet, I had RF's in my 200IS. They were wicked as well. Pretty much the same class I reckon.

yeah, they have good prices and a fair amount of variety, in south african terms :p

i recently purchased a Corex CD/MP3 AutoRadio for R1000 which can take a SD or MMC memory card and you get 1Gb SD cards for R300 at take2.co.za.

you sound like an audiophile and i'm not sure about the quality of the sound... if you are interested though, i can let you know what its like when i ge it (should arrive before Friday).

I am a bit. That would be cool to know what it's like.

Cheers

why not look at some 7x10's or 6x9's to run treble at the back running off the amp along with the sub? the splits in front can run off the deck as long as it comes with a crossover. got mine set up that, it doesn't rattle people's house windows outside but the point is not for everyone outside to hear. inside the car it sounds loud and clear

Could be an idea, thanks.

6x9's & 7x10's are completely and utterly a waste of time and money.

Your ears point forward so pray do tell what is the point of putting high-powered speakers behind you? Rather spend the extra cash on better splits for the front.

i'd have to say i agree. No matter how i set up my install, with 7 x 10s in the backboard it is almost impossible for all the sound not to get dragged to the back...which really sucks.

My advice: Like thewanted said, go for high quality splits up front, where you actually will be sitting and leave some base in the back.( subs or base tubes or whatever you are going for)

the point isnt to run bass off the 6x9's, thats when all the sound reverts to the back because the bass coming from the 6x9's isn't powerful enough therefore it drones out due to road noise as you driving. the point is to run treble so it balances out the bass coming from the sub. 6x9's are a lot more capable of running treble at higher volumes than bass. the split system in front is used mainly for midrange frequencies i.e. voice etc.

yeah the splits do have tweeters for high frequencies but if you going to run it off the amp its going to be a loud piercing sound which isnt very good on the ears and wont allow you to get the full effect of a more complete system. instead you're going to be hearing lots of treble mixed with bass and a barely audible midrange which doesnt make for a very enjoyable experience. which is why its better to run off the deck with a crossover system so that the tweeters dont overpower anything else. by running 6x9's off the amp along with the sub, it gives you greater control over the high and low frequencies by adjusting it on the amp, using the split system off the deck mainly for midrange frequencies.

Fully agreed, The 6x9's give a better mid-bass frequency response than the Sub's which should be set for the function intended "sub bass"

I recently fitted a uno panel-van with two 12" rear sub's via amp and two 6x9's just behind the seats in the side panels with splits in front and tweeters on dash. Without the 6*9's the sound staging was piss poor and for that the first attempt wit a cheaper brand did not much better so I used two Soundstars and the difference were amazing. Just think what it could be with proper speakers. (Budget predicted the clients system)

As for the ears pointing forward is a lot of crap as nobody sits with their ears pinned in one direction ie forward (your neck would be in danger). Your head and ears move around and as such the music perceived changes as the head (ears) is rotated. With a decent staging the effect would not be so severe and the music can be fully appreciated irrespective off the head movements. Also the car seating layout is such that you cannot have a balanced staging as your left (or right) ear is flush against the window so to speak therefore staging is important so that the music does not change to much as the head is moved. If you turn your head and you loose a music instrument or voice representation your staging is piss poor

thats a good point that pupa makes, if your system is set up depending on the position of your ears then you have a weak setup and your system obviously doesnt sound complete. you know that you have a good setup when your system sounds the same no matter where you sit and which position your ears are facing

DVD with mp3 ?

How do you get the dvd player to play the DVD disk with mp3 music format ? ... i tried to do it on my home system and it would'nt recognize the disk ! ( Sony system BTW) gave up on that experiment and built a PC media centre instead.

Some systems support it and some don't. My DVD player at home plays MP3's from a CD but not from a DVD.

One other speaker manufacturer to consider is Infinity... I've had them in my car for about 4 years now, and am very happy with them. Prices are reasonable too.

Think about limpids/landmines (8 or 10 inch round speakers with rest of mid range(3way) like 6/9 or 7/10) instead of 6/9 or 7/10's. They are round like most subs and the quality of sound(Mid/Bass) is much better.
