Car sound

R5000 budget. Want good clean sound for music. Not grrrrr grrrrr baaaaa baaaaa doooofff doooof taxi'ness #vibrations #decibels And im looking for a 10' sub. Not going 12'. The sound must be clear.. the bass must be good bass.. not run away dragging bass.. i want in-car entertainment.. not for the neighbourhood to hear how loud and banging it is.

Around 5k is good for new, you could probably get some good 2nd hand stuff. I'm not talking about XTC etc.

I personally got a Kicker system so look into that.

Get the box custom made for the type of bass you want, which is dependent on the music you listen to.

Also go for a split kit at the back and not 6x9.

8 inch sealed sub with proper component set and a decent 4 channel amp and you are good to go. personally my brand reccomendation is JBL just watch out for fake jbl mostly found at fleamarkets

Id luv a kicker system. But its going to cost more than 5k. Unless u know someone who knows someone.

Digital design 10' boxed sub. That thing is a humdinger. If set up right with a pair of splits. It sounds good. But i will see.

My amp was around 2.5k.
I'm not sure about the prices now but the only thing I didn't factor in was the box and extra cabling.

Get a Sony deck. If you don't fancy Sony then check out Pioneer. Alpine also looks good and has extra features.

For split speaker setup look at the Infinity Primus PR6500cs. These are premium speakers at consumer level https://www.autostyle.co.za/infinity-primus-pr6500cs-6-1-2-split-system.html

And for the amp I went with a Targa 3000w, similar to this https://www.autostyle.co.za/car-aud...ga-thump-series-4200w-4channel-amplifier.html .These amps can use 2 channels in bridge mode as a mono-block to power a DVC sub if necessary.

I've been using a Sony deck for the past 6 years with 2 x Sansui 6,5" Split speakers, 2 x Standard speakers and a Targa 3000w amp. They've given me no hassles since then. Good clean sound and I can turn up the bass if needed,

I'd echo this. Back in my varsity days I got my car a Sony deck and Sony XPlod speakers front and rear. I remember being reasonably happy with that and it wasn't super-expensive (hell I could afford it at University on my savings). Only snag was that the car was stolen as soon as I moved up to Johannesburg, so that was the end of that.

As usual... I lot of rubbish advice and bragging on here... I'm not even sure OP had said what car this stuff is going into...

The following is a good starting point:

1) If your stock radio doesn't have an RCA output, buy a new head unit.

2) Buy the biggest digital splits that fit in your front doors ( especially if you aren't going with a sub) , and the same for the rear doors, whether it be splits or normal 3way. Stick to a trusted brand, but going with expensive, exclusive brands isn't necessary if your signal and wiring is good.

3) Ensure that your door speakers are sufficiently amplified, either by a good head unit or a dedicated amp. For 4 speakers at 6 inch or larger, I prefer a dedicated amp anyway.

4) If you want a sub, make sure that the amplifier is able to easily power the sub at 4ohm.

5) If you intend on playing mp3s, buying a 'quality' sound system is pointless.

Good luck.

In Durban go see Rowen at East End Customs in town. He had some good specials on Kicker for around R5K for a 4 channel amp, a sub and a pair of splits.

What car is this for?

I did a kicker system with Bilal from Sound Boyz today. Its rocking
Clear, not crazy grrr bass. Very good quality.
