Searched the forum but found nothing so started this one..

Was looking around today (Game and Autozone) for a basic car toolkit plus first aid kit(actually don't have a complete one I discovered yesterday:wtf:), didn't find anything remotely in these lines so want to compile my own one, what is the basic list of necessities needed/what do you guys have in your cars? Thanks!

If you travel a lot: fanbelts and water-hoses ...

I have most of the stuff on the Discovery list in my car, except the first aid kit which I'll only throw in if driving long distances.

Additionally I keep a tyre pressure gauge (not essential) and a small compressor (came with the car - no spare wheel).

I always have the following in my car:

Full set sockets with wrench (half inch)
Good quality screwdriver set
Duct tape
Insulation tape
5Lt water
Car jack with wheel spanner
Compressor
Puncture repair kit
Pliers
Side cutters
Spare fan belt
Spare timingbelt (my cars engine does not self destruct when it breaks)
Spare spark plugs and plug spanner
There may be some other stuff that I forgot to mention.

I have never had to use any of these things, but better safe than sorry.

Fire Extinguisher - this should be law.
Plus I carry a window breaker thingie.

"Insert paranoid smiley face" :)

This reminds me. Someone stole my jack! Only noticed a couple of days back (must've happened at a carwash).

Any advice on a good quality jack?

I have a 2ton hydrolic on wheels - best money ever spent. I've always had these and never had a problem with cheap ones from Game / AutoZone / Midas.

I've only ever had to replace them as family never return stuff.

Simple stuff to keep.

Small can gearbox oil.
Device to open your gearbox sump (varies from car to car).
Normal oil.
2l water.
shifting spanner and most common size sockets/spanners for car.
Side cutter.
Cable ties
Spare fanbelt and some spare piping.
Normal + Phillips screwdriver.
Jumper cables and tow rope.
Can of WD40/Q20/Tool in a can.

That will get you out of most sticky situations with the car.

Going to use the Discovery list as a basis and add few of the ones mentioned above thanks! :D
