I have this annoying plastic undertray under the engine...

It covers the whole underside of the engin compartment. It comes loose too often, coz of my H&R suspension, the car is low, if you know Alfa's, you'll know that they are naturally low on the front side.

It scrapes everywhere I go - plus now it hangs coz it came loose, AGAIN! Now I sat there looking at the car and thinking to myself what will go wrong if the undertray is NOT on...it hangs, it looks fugly and it looks like Im not taking care of my car as it hangs there as if I was in an accident...damnit!

I have been thinking of taking it off for a while now, while Alfisti all over told me not to coz wires will be cought and you'll hit the sump, well first of all, its plastic if I was to hit the sump, the plastic wont stop it, also, wires don't hang that low, I've made sure of it...and where do you drive where you wires that's secure are going to get cought anyway?

So opinions on undertrays...can they be taken off? Pros vs cons...

Cheers:D

All passenger cars are lower in front, im sure you know why...

Just bolt it on firmly so it doesnt get in the way.
You know Alfas give problems it might be worst without the tray....

No I don't know...why???

I think by the tone of the post you would realise I've had it tightened and tightened myself countless times...to no avail...

and yes, Alfa's are lower, sory vir jou!:p

Leave it on - it keeps the oil from your Alfa off your friends' driveways. :p Actually it manages airflow and stops dirt from getting into the engine bay.

Use glue and pop rivets!!

You dont? Where are most cars engines?

Pop rivets popped out...have you been in a Car with H&R springs they are harder than Eibach joh!

Glue won't work, you know I'll have to take the tray off sometime in the near future ROFL:rolleyes:

Thats odd, VWs dont fall apart with a harder suspension...:p

My guess is that it is there for a reason, be it protection or airflow or something else that the engineers deemed important enough to add it to the car.

You, on the other hand - and no offense meant by it, are not an engineer at FIATspa so I do not think you should go messing with it.

Yep, ALFA-dude - you might want to more closely inspect my previous post. I dunno, maybe quote it, or in the very least highlight it with your mouse. :p

Locktite. Should keep the bolts (or nuts) from working loose.

The tray protects your (delicate/alfa) engine from things being flung up off the road and from too much water when you go through pudles. Keep it on or learn to push your car everytime it rains. Damn Alfas are temperamental enough without you removing what little protection they have.

Thats ridiculous, first of all H&R is far superior to Eibach , theres no comparison, and two, all blame goes to Alfa for building a car with such a crappy suspension.

Yep - FIAT engineers are pretty clever folks. They not only create the problem (Alfa) they also solve it (the under tray) and you are left with a beautiful problem-free Alfa.

That is, until you start modifying it, then your back to the problem.

But he didnt say it was bad, he said its harder, and he's right about that.

I believe the problem (Alfa) existed long before FIAT got their grubby mits on it. :D I remember pushing my uncles GTV 6 many times in the 80s. :o

Did you see the Castle lager ad, they needed a Jetta to tow the Alfa GTV:D

But they sounded ORGASMIC when they did start! Sold my '83 2.0GTV last week... :(

When? WHEN??? IF they ever started. Selling your GTV was probably the smartest thing you've done since buying it.

Just kidding, I'm actually quite a fan of Alfa. That said I don't think my brain would ever let my heart buy one. Unless somebody offered me a C8 for a hundred bucks. :D
