Do you mind pointing to the thread on Carb itself - I'd like to see the details - so many different scams these days...(hell, I read of one where a girl spent the night/weekend pomping someone then stole his computer the next day when he thought she'd left)

Always meet in person - esp if you new
Use cash its always pref.
If its to good to be true it usually is.
Itrader is a good indication of rep but not rock solid.

NEVER EVER SEND CASH.

Someone sending you an ID etc is likely a scammer...

Use common sense - unfortunately its lacking most of the time.

Thanks for the advice, it helped me to navigate the site the site better. I clicked on the seller's and he has been active for a long time and has good references.

Bought a graphics card last month. Seller had high positive ratings. Card was shipped Jhb to Cape Town. Probably the best and fastest online purchasing experience I've had.
Check their ratings and their interactions with other users to get a sense of their attitude.

Can't personally vouch for the seller, but based on my experience with other sellers who have a similar profile, I'd be comfortable buying.

That said, my self-imposed limit for buying an individual item on Carb is around 10K.
