So someone just spent 3.5k using my cheque card although it was with me, I am guessing my card was cloned, happened to anyone else?

Called FNB, they cancelled the card and opened up a fraud case, I wonder if I will get my money back.

Not only was it cloned, someone also saw your pin code.

It happened to me many years ago, while drawing money at an ATM. I was not cautious enough and allowed 2 guys to talk to me and ask silly questions while drawing money, it was my mistake as I should have told them to completely back off.

Needless to say, I did get all my money back from Standard Bank.

I am also curious how they got my PIN

Fake POS machine or infected POS machine maybe?

Do you use the card to withdraw cash at ATMs? That could also be a target (theu skim the magnetic strip from the card slot, small pinhole camera captures pin being entered into keypad, but there are other methods too).

Similar situation happened to me a few years ago. At the Meat Co when it was still at Melrose Arch. I suspect a fake POS machine. Waiter brought it to me, enter pin, transaction doesn’t go though, says sorry let me get another machine. Disappears and brings another one, and it works.

2 weeks later I get a notification of someone buying furniture for R10000. FNB were on the Ball. 30 secs later I get a phone call wanting to know if it was me doing the transaction.

That happens often to me at the OK and one restaurant in my town. Those machines are genuinely not working properly. Never been cloned, touch wood.

Yep, happened to us at a Spur outlet recently.
This seems to be happening often .. What amount they took from you ?

I think it was a ATM cause this person bought clothing from a shop in Durban,I was down during the Easter holiday , remember using those built in ATM at the garage ..

Did they reverse the transaction or did you get your money back ?

Happened to me as well a few years ago. Had a FNB CC card which I hadn't used in like 6 months. Then out of the blue 3k was spent on it. FNB flagged it and asked me if it was valid.
Card was cancelled and transaction void.

I watch my card like a hawk now. I even tell the person to look away while I enter my pin. If they don’t do it by themselves. Haha.

I also have a family member who had a debit card cloned recently.

Seems to be happening a lot at the moment, I think that one needs to take extra caution.

Lol I went and lowered my daily limits after this happened

Lol. If I do go to an ATM. I jiggle the *** out of the keypad and that green thing where you put your card in.

That’s a good plan lowering your limits.
