A friends card was swallowed at FNB Milnerton ATM this morning. He left the ATM, and a few minutes later, cash had been withdrawn from his account, and a transaction was made at Harley's liquor store. He cancelled the card but R3000 had been taken by that point.

I have seen the fraud claim forms but what's the best procedure from here, and the likelihood of recovering the money?

I've had cards swallowed but I'm so paranoid that I will not leave the area until I've reported it to the bank that the card has been retained.

Yeah. The number for the bank is next to the ATM for a reason. You cancel there and then.

Either a skimming machine or one of those machine with the plastic insert that holds the card. It's quite likely there was a camera somewhere picking up the PIN too.

Which one?? Hope it's not at the fnb machine at the garage, I use it all the time. Centre point is no more afaik.

same thing happened to me about 3 months ago in yeoville at an FNB ATM. card got swallowed and in about 10 minutes R3000 (my daily limit) was withdrawn from another atm in the area. i called fnb immediately though. in fact the moment i recieved the withdrawal sms i was still on the phone with FNB. this was my only saving grace so FNB refunded me the amount

Thought those machines would have been phased out by now and replaced by the ones which don't require the card to completely go in.

One of the reasons I don't withdraw money from ATM's which are not inside a building.

Where in Milnerton was this?

FNB should refund this money. It's negligence on their part as their equipment was compromised.

Anybody got some pictures of a skimming machine so that we know what to look out for before inserting the card? Where is the camera normally placed?
