I don't think marks make a huge difference, you either have the degree or you don't. If you do then they look at relevant experience and the way you present yourself in your CV/emails and of course interview. If you communicate the way you do in the original post you might have issues, high marks or not.

Marks do make a difference for your first job. Not discounting your other points - but marks are important if that's all there is.
OP: BCom Infomatics is fine for a business analyst position.

Just make sure that the qualifications that you put on your CV reflect your knowledge. Like yesterday I was speaking to a new colleague of mine and he said that people like to do brain dumps (like remembering multi-choice questions' answers) with Microsoft exams and he had a colleague at his previous job who got fired for getting his diploma/certification like that.

A CV and first impression in the interview counts a lot. Be honest in both. Some companies would be glad to give you training if they see potential in you, even if you don't have to applicable knowledge at that stage!
Of course your actual performance and creativity at work would pretty much ensure that you keep your job + get fairly frequent raises / higher positions.

Unfortunately in SA, BEE status also counts for/against you depending on your race, but this won't stop you if you're going to work at a startup company who doesn't have anything to do with the government.

So ja, study hard and don't just study to pass the exams. Study to get actual knowledge that you can use in your job!
