Just started watching it, for the first time!

Can anyone recommend any awesome series/documentaries such as this?

Goodluck to me on my voyage. ^_^

Nothing quite compares to Cosmos.

If you are interested in Astronomy specifically then "The Universe" is quite interesting, although some episodes are a bit sensationalistic.

i have the book here at home but don't think i ever read it.

That's a shame. I read it years ago, but can't really remember the book. Have been looking for a copy to re-read, but the local library doesn't have it. guess I'll have to fill in one of those request cards.

The TV series, while similar to the book, was excellent though from the bits I've seen.

damn! i just went to check if it was the book so i can send it to see but it is in fact called CONTACT. i was mistaken i thought it was COSMOS.

Contact is also great. One of the most technically correct SF ever. I reread my copy every couple of years and it is better than the movie.

If you can find it the HB version of 'Pale Blue Dot' is also an eye-opener.

cool buddy. i started to read the first page of Contact last night but for the life of me i cannot work out what the hell he is on about.

I could not work out if it was a story book or a book on space and meeting an advanced civilization.

I have to get my hands on these DVDs, I love this stuff!

By human standards it could not possibly have been artificial: It was the size of a world. But it was oddly and intricately shaped, so clearly intended for some complex purpose that it could only have been the expression of an idea. Gliding in polar orbit about the great blue-white star, it resembled some immense, imperfect polyhedron, encrusted with millions of bowlshaped barnacles. Every bowl was aimed at a particular part of the sky. Every constellation was being attended to. The polyhedral world had been performing its enigmatic function for eons. It was very patient. It could afford to wait forever.

Wow. Forgot how great that starting paragraph was. It seems daunting, but it will make sense as you read further.

It's definitely fiction but tackles the meeting an advanced civilization in a scientific "what if" manner.

ok i will give it a go then i think it would proberly be the 3rd book i am reading at the moment when i have the chance.

just got a copy the other day and wanted to read it but it also seemed to start like Contact.
