LOL @ Statics. Which Eng Disciplined you studied for?
I did Civils at UCT and Post Grad in Rock Mechanics at Tuks. Tuks has very good post grad research work.
Because of SAICE's very stringent requirements to register as Pr Eng, its becoming difficult to register new young people because its hard to find diverse work that meets the standard expected by SAICE. So, we are in a situation where a Pr Eng becomes indispensable to a company.
This is a hurdle because we need a succession planning for the seasoned Pr.Eng to work with young Pr.Eng. Also, technology has changed a lot. While young engineers can easily grasp stuff like Finite Element Analysis packages, they are prone to make mistakes from input parameters and assumptions which is where the seasoned guys could be passing on their engineering wisdom.
