Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if i can find carputer power supplies in SA, like those found on MP3car.com?

Thanks

Good luck man, have tried in vein, only people I found where in the US, personally I would use http://www.short-circuit.com/ , they do ship to SA for about $30, I think, imo they are a bit better than mp3car

Just after i posted this thread, i came across a company called Redlinx based in CPT, they have some psu's that are on the website that you posted, so i will have to wait to hear about the pricing as i sent an email but will only hear tomorrow hopefully.

Sick!, thats like the best news all month for me! :D

I also wanna go CarPuter or just plug a Android Tablet into the car. :p
Will see which is better option.

I have a couple of things that i will try, i am buying a 7" touch screen GPS device as the ones on bid or buy, they are quite cheap, and some come with a AV in connection, once i get it i will hook up a pc to it and see how it looks, and works, if all is ok then that will get built into the vehicle and from there the pc will be installed, well once i can get the proper psu.
If not then i will need to source a 7" touch screen for the pc.

Why I was considering a Android tablet, it's got media capabilities, GPS, Internet, maps, touch screen and all...

That is a good idea, but i still was want the power of a pc. And if i could ask, how are you going to go about the audio portion of the install? getting the media from the tablet to play on your vehicles sound system.

We're going a bit overboard on the sound system. Equalizer, Cross-Over, 2farad cap, 2 ubs, 2 sets of 6/5" split systems, 2 amps 3 RCA cables running between Equalizer & cross over.
With the Equalizer i can use almost any sound source.

And what would you suggest for me, i want the easiest way to connect from the pc to the standard sound system?

It's very simple - via the 3.5mm stereo jack on the PC, to the input of your amp. Depends on your system but look for the input for an external player or CD player.

Any news from those guys yet, searched their WS last night and couldn't find anything that did what the DC-DC PSU's do

I'd personally not bother with a PC and rather run an android tablet but if you MUST do the car PC thing, these are some of the best:

Seriously expensive tho, that PSU is 150watt and cost R550 including shipping

After doing some good research i will have to agree with the android tablet, it's cheaper, easier to install, without the hassle of trying to get stuff that is hard to find.
i have been on BOB searching for tablets, the cheaper kind, which i think will work, 7" tablet with 3G, GPS, etc for R1500, it's not a galaxy tab but i'm sure it will do the job just fine.

See this vid as an example of how to do it: http://youtu.be/stE33HD4g-c

Yea it is cheaper to use a tablet, the only thing I enjoy about using a PC is it can be extensively customized, tablets do have their limitations :(

What about the Raspberry pi, i expressed interest in it on RS Online ZA, but only receive emails and no actual ETA of the product, and when it comes here it will first come first serve.
I'm sure that this device will be quite adequate as well, using it as a car pc?
