Did anyone else see that item on Carte Blanche last night where this ex cop has invented a gadget that can "extract data" from samples of human hair (say) and then use this information to locate them. It appears that he can obtain a "bearing" to the item/person. By taking readings from different locations he can pinpoint the item/person's location fairly accurately.

From the Carte Blanche Site:
What if a special scientific device could track a missing person anywhere across the globe using only a single strand of hair? Or trace diamonds, or even deadly bacteria? Most would agree that it would be the invention of the millennium. It may sound far-fetched, but a local Bloemfontein inventor claims it's highly possible with his secret device. Carte Blanche puts him to the test.

They tested him and he managed to locate all the test subjects to within a hundred meters or so of their location! Freaky stuff. :D

If this isn't a gigantic hoax then this is probably one of the biggest discoveries yet made. It also has all sorts of privacy issues...

I've tried to find more info on this on the web but no luck so far. If you know where to get more info on this please post here.

ex-cop from SA?

Pardon me for being sceptical.... but HUGE hoax or some money making scam... esp if its an ex-cop...

I honestly think it's a load of BS.

I watched the program and I did see that he found test subjects but those results could be false - i.e. someone told him where to look etc.

Strangely for Carte Blanche, they didn't focus on any negatives of this device - I can't believe he's never had a false-positive.

If this invention were true he would probably be the richest person in the world right now, he claims he can find diamonds and oil... well what you waiting for - oil is pretty much in demand... I don't believe this oke for a second - Carte Blanche will be issuing an apology soon for reporting on a giant hoax...

It does seem too good to be true. :)
If it is a hoax they're doing a fantastic job conning the public so far...

I can't believe anything he says. I mean, Diamond Exploration companies would be lining themselves for this guy if this were true. Loads of BS. There was no Carte Blanche about this story!!!

To good to be true , Hes life would be in so much danger now, there would be every good and bad super power trying to take that idea from him. And from a ex cop in bloem it wouldent be hard... Maby Carte Blanche is loosing the plot??

Carte Blanche punts themselves as being experts at exposing scams, etc. I hope they follow up on this hoax as well ... scientifically it cannot be possible.

Indeed, there was no description or hint as to the science behind it. Interesting that he denied there was any metaphysics involved, but till a more concrete explanation is forthcoming, the jury's out on this one.

As for finding people. I immediately thought of the 6 missing girls - Tracey-Lee Scott-Crossley, Fiona Harvey, Annemarie Wapenaar, Yolande Wessels, Odette Boucher, Joan Horn... and of course the innumerable other South Africans that just disappeared without trace.

What struck me was that he said he has been using this technology to help the police since 2004, if he had been using it that long and it really did exist then why haven't mining companies, governments and law enforcement agencies been lining up to use or buy it?

It doesn't seem like he has patented it yet either.

sounds too good to be true to me too. The FBI would have paid him MILLIONS of dollars already if it was really that accurate. same goes for oil companies.

i think he took carte blanche for a little trip, and funny how that trip was just in bloemfontein................
