Caster takes gold

Ok so all this Caster mania is going to end, suddenly, for her. Let her take this gold medal, it will likely be her last because a change to the rules will happen.

Its a tough catch 22 situation but imo if you have hidden testicals, producing testosterone, you will have a major advantage over just about every other women out there. A natural, but albeit unfair advantage.

Either she will be banned from competing, or females will drop from the sport or start doping to bring themselves up to a similar level.

One way or another, Caster is going to lose out here.

What should Caster have done differently, to result in a win situation for her? She is an athlete, all she can do is race until she is no longer allowed to.

Yes. It's not her fault.

The IOC must get off their backsides and make the call.

Just so we are ALL on the same page:

Firstly, the Special Olympics is for athletes with intellectual disabilities, while the Paralympics is predominantly for competitors with physical disabilities, though it increasingly has events for athletes with intellectual impairments also.

Quite a few posters in this thread would qualify...

Nothing, its ultimately sad for her, because she is an exception to the rule. There is no doubt that she put in every bit as much effort into her training and dedication as the other athletes, however her physical makeup put her in a different league, chemically speaking. I think she also knows the end is coming, so is enjoying every bit of it right now, as she should.

This is why its going to be a tough call to make, but it will be made.

She could try her hand against the boys maybe, otherwise she will forever remain in a league of her own, literally. This is the unfortunate reality, but you cannot make it every other female athletes problem, its technically not fair on them either. She should in fact retire, stating all the above and she would be held in a very high asteem. As long as she persists to compete, people will move against her.

Why is she targeted yet the other athletes in a similar situation remain in the shadows? Is it that she actually trains much harder than most? And therefore deserves the rewards?

The category must be hyperandrogenism.

They are not women. Did you watch the "race". It was very uncomfortable watching them race.

Man you sound horrid. She is a woman, only with a unfair chemical balance in her body, thus giving her physical benefits over other women. To state she is not a woman is naive and highly disrespectful. She does deserve some respect, her background, current standings, medical condition, yet she achieves what she has, and continues to say stuff you to negativity, which is great.

Other athletes in similar positions? Im not actually aware of any.. that said.. at what point do you draw the line when it comes to testosterone levels? The rules would affect everyone the same, so if other women have hyperandrogenism, they would also be forced to retire, or start a separate league...

The amount of effort she puts in is irrelevant. How does one know she trains harder than most? If anything if I was a woman, I would want to train twice as hard if I wanted a chance at beating her, which may ultimately never be possible. In that sense, do those women deserve nothing?

Just something, I watched the race again...

The WR is 1:53.28
The OR is 1:53.43

Casters time at Rio was 1:55.28 which is her personal best.

She is still 2 seconds off the WR, so what exact massive advantage does she have?

Good point... although Kratochvílová was said to be implicated in some sort of doping scandal. Alot of people say it she had a very unnatural physique and that her record wouldnt be beaten in 100 years. That said, Caster isnt faster than the previous 3 WR's...which is quite interesting... Either doping was rife back then, and now its not, or females are getting slower...

Not to mention that the men at Rio ran the 800m fully 11 seconds faster than that WR.
