Caster takes gold

Another interesting stat, Melissa Bishop's time 1:57.02 is the 242nd best time by a woman in the 800m (and her own PB) Caster's time was only good enough for 20th position of all time.

Personally, I feel any time set before mandatory drug testing became a thing should be archived (as in considered appropriate for a different era). That Flo-Jo record in the 100m is a disgrace and so is the 800m one.

What is politically correct about a woman winning?
Might be saying that we're being too politically correct by allowing Semenya to compete ie. we're too scared too tell her she's not a proper woman? Not really sure.

@Trigun: There's a difference between allowing nature to play dice and humans selectively enhancing performance: Sports have always been dominated by those smiled upon by lady luck - endowed with traits that are the envy of the rest of the pack.

Yeah, tend to agree..

Would still feel a little awkward hitting it though. I would do it as a challenge you know, grit my teeth and get on with it, but I wouldn't be totally fine with it.

You get my vote for a gold, dude. Taking one for the team. The Olympic team!

Since she already competed and won in a male event I don't think so.

Read what I said: in-vitro modifications.

Which means that the recipients of them did not choose to have them applied. Which means they would have the same type of genetic advantage as Usain Bolt has.

I know, but was the purpose by applying these mods to enhance the being’s athleticism? Bolt was not grown inside a petri dish.

Caster has run quicker than Melissa Bishop's PB 7 times in total....

edit: As a comparison, Caster's time come nowhere close to the Men's all time 800m list...

http://www.alltime-athletics.com/m_800ok.htm

Caster ran 1:55.28, the men's 800m has been run faster than 1:45.99, 6450 times.

Lynsey Sharp which came in at sixth is making a huge story about this, rallying up the British community to support her in the gender row. Say Semenya was British, she would had represented team Great Britain, not to mention that the British would had exhibited her as an Olympic pinnacle.

Agree, can only imagine the reaction of the British press if Caster where a British Athlete.

Yeah, they're pretty bad losers in this case. Does this mean Simbine can go all mad because he finished 5th behind 4 faster, taller athletes on the day? If you're not the fastest, doesn't mean you are the best just because you believe it.

Should Van Niekerk also be banned because he went faster than anyone else? IMO his performance was even more ridiculous, yet because he fits the stereotype, and in fact is even more slightly built than Semenya, he is praised?

Look, I get the argument, but she's been cleared after sex tests etc. so no further word should be spoken about it by her opponents, or the IAAF.

If you get this way by using steroids, different matter, but this is a different case altogether. I may make jokes about it, but I can see the humor in anything. It's not an insult. But the professionals surrounding her should not be making any negative remarks, serious or otherwise.

I will say, however, her voice scares the crap out of me.

It wouldn't matter given the result would be the same as if Bolt decided to become a stud for women wanting children who will have a genetic predisposition to being good at running.

The argument is that you wouldn't really be able to tell if the genetic trait was "natural" or modified. If the foetus had the treatment applied in secret, they could just claim it is a natural mutation.

How about height classes being applied since people are moaning about Bolt? Like weight classes in boxing and mma?

one thing jumps at me with her(him), if this was the US/UK/AUS team what would happen?

one can see something is wrong here, but what worries me is this is SA representative, we so backwards that we fail to notice this....

look I dont wish her ill, I sure she trained very hard to make it this far,

I just look at the photos, and it jumps out at me something is very wrong here.....

I have no doubt that medicine will play a changing role in human evolution, we as human beings will advance (and enhance through these actions), and selective breeding is up there on the list.

True, but the treatment was administered. Not ignoring that many which applies such discreet treatments may leave a trace or signature behind.

Science.

Would you allow a woman like Caitlyn Jenner to compete in the female event?

You do know that the transition between genders is more than putting on a wig, putting oranges into your shirt and tucking your willy between your legs right? :p
