Castro Quits

We lost 715 men.

Angolans killed 11 000

It was difficult to determine how many Cubans and other nationalities as there were East germans and Russians also involved.

Some people said we lost the war.The figures tells a different story.

In the 1987/88 conflict at Cueto Cuanavale there weren't more than 31 or 41 (cant seem to remember which) SADF troops killed, while reports stated that between 5000 and 7000 Cubans/Angolans were killed.

Maybe your figure includes the conflict from the 70's as well?

After 49 years, I call it retirement not Quitting.

Anyway, got mixed feelings about Castro. he did some things badly, and some things well. Generally the revearse of the ANC government. He gave the poor food, healthcare and homes, but could not grow the economy.

The ANC did the reverse, grew the economy, but gave the poor one big middle finger knowing they will still vote for them.

Let;s all hope Cuba beomes deomocratic :)

powerful well articulated argument

I say as soon as the US becomes a democracy then we can start looking at Cuba.

Brief summary of Cuban People as a Result of Castro:

- Healthy with a life expectancy almost twice that of people in US.
(alanf85 and others... that means that if you die at 40 in US you would only die at 80 in Cuba because the government actually cares about you ;))

*Free Medical Care - This means that you can have a brain operation or a heart transplant for FREE... guess what it costs in the US...

- People have better average living standard than most places in the world... like Israel:sick:

- Free Food!

-Free Education! Including University Education... Guess how much it costs to go to University here in SA and over there in the US ;)

SO If I was your Average Joe... I would rather live in Cuba than in the US any day of the week. Also less poisonous Media in Cuba ;)
