What about a fighting game like Tekken - always goes down well with friends...

+1 I agree with that, everyone likes Tekken, even the "girls"

Soul Calibre on the PS2 was even better as it only had 3 buttons making anyone an expert player (unfortunately)

Singstar is also a great game for parties.
