CAT5E in Cape Town (2013)

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a 25 metre CAT5E cable (pref. white or gray), which can either be pre-assembled or sold by the metre (if sold by the meter the retailer must sell the ends also). I have looked at this thread:

but it seems to be a bit dated, and there might be a store a bit closer to where I am in Claremont/Rondebosch area.
Please can anyone suggest a place.

Got a quote for R180.00 for 25m in town, but I bought one in Durban (pre-assembled) at some average expensive computer store for R120.00... is R180 reasonable?

Try ZakSpeed in Kenilworth opposite Kenilworth Center.

I recently bought mine there and they sell pre-assembled and sell my the meter.

sheesh, I remember paying something like R400 or something for 305 meters of CAT5e cable... R180 for only 25m sounds extremely harsh :erm:

For that kind of money you can almost buy your own box

Pleasure, if you haven't specified beforehand, they will crimp it for you when you pickup (minimal extra cost)

You probably do not care inside the house but have yet to find proper full copper Cat5e in white. If you do care then use ega trunking as it does not look too bad.

Yup, that's the one - works absolutely brilliantly - well worth the money

I now have two Netgear WN200RPTv2 for sale - less than 3 months old -

According to the chap at Scoop, they fly out as soon as they land (stock on their website already reserved - not dispatched yet)

I see that the chaps who sell Tp-Link (they're somewhere around here on MyBB), also stock them (their website shows them as out of stock though).
