Johannesburg The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport's seizure of truck trailers transporting "high cube" containers has had catastrophic results.
At least one container ship has left for the Cape Town harbour to offload freight there while the Durban harbour is becoming congested because haulage companies are reluctant to transport the containers.
Intervention at national level is being sought and the RFA has approached President Jacob Zuma's office, the Minister of Trade & Industry and the Minister of Transport to salvage the situation.
Kelly reckons the problem will not have a ready solution, but it is hoped that some compromise can be reached, at least over the festive season, so that the truck trailers can reach their Gauteng destinations. Some of the freight involves perishable goods
