Catch 22 Computer Problem

Depending on the motherboard age,
It's pre-socket 775 and still runs DDR400 memory :o

it would scream (errors on the screen/beeps) at you if theres no keyboard plugged in, has it done this?
With the USB keyboard plugged in it POST beeps (once) within e few seconds. Have not tried it with the keyboard unplugged.

The BSOD sounds like an OS failure
I agree.

I would say, take the HDD where your OS is installed out, put into another pc that works and troubleshoot from there, and remember your windows setup discs cause a repair might be necessary

Lol - The PC is just used as a file/music/backup "server" on my network. Me thinks it's time for Ubuntu :)

can u get to the bios with ps2 KB ? or does it scream at u the second u power up?
It beeps like it has no RAM, 2 secs after start.

Ok your options now, are you going to give it a burial or cremate? :P
Lol - Nah, back to the grave yard where she came from...

pee on it ;)

Thats how it broke in the first place knowing Dixie

Hahahaha, you guys are funny! :D

I, have not, or going, to, pee on anything (commas confuse me)

thats surely the oddest advice i have ever heard :D:eek:

I take it that you have not met The_Pumpkin_King, then?
He pees on evertything and everyone :D

...and he will be pleased to see that I have now derailed my own thread

open the box and Reset the BIOS, either a jumper
or just pull the battery. Machine must be off when you do that
USB support should be (note should) default on.

+100 000 000 for Drake!!!

I just pulled the battery - obviously not for long enough :o

Thought I would give it another shot.
Found the reset jumpers and it bloodywell worked :D

Now I don't have to rummage through the graveyard for an old carcass.
...spiders! *shudders*

Thanks Drake!

This story has a happy ending.
Reset BIOS.
Keyboard worked after reset.
Changed Boot order in BIOS
Generic USB was not enambled! ?
Booted from OS CD.
Ran a Repair.
All OK

Thanks again, Drake!

Hi guys – this one is not for the faint hearted :(

I have a desktop PC.
The keyboard and mouse PS2 ports, on the MB got damaged.
I replaced the keyboard and mouse with USB ones (important clue).

When I start the PC it Blue-screens, at some stage.
When I restart it gives me the option to start in Safe Mode.

Here is the catch – the USB Keyboard is not working yet (drivers not loaded?) and I cannot select anything, which means that I also cannot get into the BIOS to change the boot order, to boot from CD (to run a Repair, for example).

Any bright sparks out there that can point out the obvious? :)

Regards

Dixie
Very strange because when the bios is default the usb kboard should still work ok.

@Dixie NP, glad it worked out ok in the end.

@dablakmark8 I've noticed that loading either the failsafe or optimised ( I forget which or how it's worded ) disables usb in some machines.
