Some stock loss guy video taped some of my staff selling him stock under the counter and pocketing the cash.

So how do I deal with this? Have them arrested? I'm not sure its worth all the effort, cos they'll just walk away in the end anyway. I would like them to just walk away now.

Its been a year and a half since I got rid of my last lot of staff because of theft..

eish!

Show them the tape, give them the option to sign a letter that says " I am resigning with immediate effect" and pay them for the days they worked.

Or give them the option to call the police and turn themselves in for theft.

I think you'll get what you want.

Oh- and have your labour lawyer with you when you do it.

Thats what I'm hoping, but it can get sticky like that.

They will all do it. Create a system to prevent it it the future.

Sheesh. People work harder trying to find ways to steal than they do at their jobs.
I have put system after system in place to make it as difficult as possible, but still they try.
Catching them is no good. It just puts me up s**t street without staff the whole time.

Honestly. Report it to the cops. It will make your other staff think twice before they do it again. Dismissing someone is such a soft punishment.

If it is a chick and she is hawt, there is always blackmail.

Theft = immediate dismissal. I would press charges regardless. If they aren't found guilty, you have no case for dismissal.

Make an example of him... show the others that they will get fired or go to jail.
Its no use firing all of them, you have to start again. The ones that stay must fear you.

I think everyone is going, they're all involved. Its not possible for one person to steal without the others knowing.

Pity people without hands aren't very productive ;)

Must say, I've been fortunate with my long standing staff.

Very sad that most steal - theft is a moral abomination which acts against the golden rule: to love and treat every human as you would expect to be in return; it's another element of corruption to an ideally perfect system of peace, love and trust.

You'll have to keep trying different ways to prevent it I'm afraid.

Are you in retail? Those are the worst. They are almost guaranteed to steal. I know a guy who owns a Romans and his staff turn over is about 4 a month. Crazy ****.

Fire all of them and employ Android's more productive and you don't have to pay them just keep them well oiled..... :)

offer immunity to the others for their testimonies against the one that was caught- its going to be difficult to convict the others without solid evidence anyway, so at least use it to your advantage. You also dont want to go after them and fail because that sends a message that they can get away with it.

It's blackmail and completely illegal. Get a labour consultant to help you with the paper work and call the cops give them a copy of the recording (always keep the master)

did you beat him? :p

Johannesburg - The North West government denied on Thursday media reports that Chinese businessmen have been victims of xenophobic attacks.

"Media reports of alleged xenophobic attacks on Chinese businessmen by residents of Madibogo village in the North West province [are] an exaggeration of a moderately tense situation," said acting public safety MEC Magome Masike.

A 22-year-old man was allegedly assaulted last week by two Chinese men in Madibogo village after he was caught stealing from their shop.

Media reports claimed that outraged residents have been threatening Chinese people operating businesses.

the last guy we fired for theft, we ended up having to pay him R20 grand for "unfair dismissal" :(

Fortunately not anymore. Theft was unbelievable. Found out the hard way - Don't be lazy and assume assume the PIR in your store room works, test it weekly if not daily. Glad to be out of retail. Now in the service industry, still theft but way more manageable.

Announce to all staff that you've had it w/ the stealing and everybody caught from now on will be prosecuted fully & probably get a criminal record. Its a hassle & costly but in the long run I reckon thats the only thing that will stick. You might as well start with this one seeing as you have video evidence.

On a totally unrelated note have you seen how low crime rates are in countries that enforce Sharia law (theft = hand chopped off)? Maybe Machiavelli was right.
