I’ve never used or installed one of these - can they be as complex as a smart switch when it comes to neutrals and ways to connect ?

Or pretty much the same as wiring a standard plug ?

I've installed 3 of them. They need a neutral and earth but any plug outlet already has both so the install is super easy.

That said, don't like them at all to be honest. You can't turn off the flashing LEDs and the connection (at least for me) between localtuya and the plugs on home assistant is flaky at best.

Installed 6 Shelly 1s in other places around the house and they've been rock solid by comparison. Going to replace the three CBIs I have with Shellys when I get around to it.

I would also add, as a bonus for the shellys, you can keep your plug faces consistent around the house as well

Thanks for the reply

It does make sense as I’m already in the Shelly ecosystem, but as I want them for power monitoring, I’d need for the Shelly 1PM - which would bring the cost to the same as a CBI plug.

Noted on the other two issues as well.

It's probably worth the money for the shelly PM to be honest. With each of the three CBI plugs I haven't been able to see proper consumption in kWh, even using the official app.

Also installed a CBI stove isolator which I have to keep because I don't think anyone else makes them and even that doesn't show proper kWh. Used the oven for an hour and it said 0.1kWh on the official app. Damn how I wish

How much would one pay to either mastmotify or esphomify these cbi plugs for people that want something better than tuya?

Tasmota is on the expensive side. You must buy the plug/isolator and the ESP chip and do resoldering.
ESPhome is cheaper, just flash it after soldering on temp wires to flash.

Not very complicated, any existing wall socket would already have the wiring and you’ll just swop one for the other really.

I would have liked if you could monitor each socket on the unit separately but that’s my only real gripe.

I actually use the LED as my load shedding indicator as this plug is turned off during load shedding as it’s attached to my aircon and comes back on after load shedding. Would have been nice to have it inverted to blinking when off and solid when on.

I could imagine it being annoying in a bedroom or something but a bit of white insulation tape would sort that out.

What do they do / can they do different using the firmware you've listed ?

For my use, I really just want to monitor power

Thats'w hat I wanted to hear - thanks .

Some of the switches can be a little complex, especially the Shelly stuff.

And that actually answers my other question . Not the end of the world, but was curious

What about Power on Default ?
Or does it simply remember the last state?

It shouldn't matter as hopefully the plug will be permanently on when my solar is installed

Oh no this is just a normal wall socket wiring wire.

Neutral, Live, Earth.

Local control with HA that is solid stable. Can customize what the leds do when ect. Power on default always work. More control and no internet dependancy.

The strange this is that they don't have 2 x ZA plugs .

I have an older home and have quite a lot of these

What of this doesn't localtuya provide?

Sorry I meant 2 x old - but yea I guess it makes sense the way they have done it

Yeah more and more new appliances will come with the new standard.

Or when you take the Euro plug off as you have to with many things you just fit the new standard.

I would actually love if they made this with 3 or even 4 of the new plugs only.
