Hello,

At first I never believed in any of these programs, but lately the more and more people I talk to preach by it and I'm not sure what the experts would say?

Especially Glary Utilities

Does these programs really work? I have run all of them and I can't see any difference with or without them.

These programs all do what you could've done yourself.

These people all have an OCD where if they don't click something like "Clean my PC" then they won't be able to sleep at night...
You can even write a damn program to do this for you to better learn the internals of an OS.

Pretty much what I suspected.

Then these registry cleaners... How legit is that?

I don't think I can identify issues in the regitry myself

I run the free version of CCleaner daily (as a scheduled job) to clean up unnecessary files, empty the recycle bin etc.: nothing spectacular, but just in an effort to get rid of the c**p that eventually slows down a machine, wastes disk space etc.

I probably don't need to but, hey, it costs me nothing :)

That said, use CCleaner on your relative's machine that has never had any maintenance - then you'll see the difference !

Current wisdom is not to bother

To test whether it works try this out
Run Spybot Search&Destroy but do not run the cleaner to clear the junk just the scan
When the list comes up do not fix it.
Make a note of the errors.
Now run the ccleaner to clear out the junk.
Now run S&D
The Item to clean out the junk would not appear
The number of item to clean in the list would have shrunk.

I use CCleaner on my tablet as it really has a chronic lack of storage. If you are not looking for an extra 300 MB of space, these programs are useless.

Maybe the CCleaner only clean up unnecessary files and recycle bin. You can clean without this kind utility. But my two computers are using CCleaner because of work.

I ran CCleaner "remove duplicate files" this weekend for the 1st time. I was shocked to see how much crap was duplicated.

That duplicate cleaner confuses me, how do I know what I can and cannot remove

Imo, TuneUp Utilities is the best PC maintenance program available. It makes a real difference.

Compared to Glary Utilities Pro?

What specifically makes it better.

I'm curious that's all

Glary is probably good too, but I just really like TuneUp and have been using it for years. Great interface, huge number of features and it has kept my PC's from slowing down over time.

The amount of crap that is left around a PC is astounding. A good maintenance program is essential imo.

I hear you, no disrespect etc but do you prefer TuneUp just because of preference since you have used it for years

Or does TuneUp have better features and settings than the pro version of Glary Utilities?

I'm asking because I obviously have Glary Utilities Pro and I'm just curious what would make one better than the other of in fact all of the things can be done manualy etc

Also you are talking about AVG Tuneup Utilities or Iobit Advanced SystemCare?
