Ccleaner, Glary Utilities, Advanced SystemCare etc

I had the Thinkpad for 2 years. Time to move on....I prefer not to use decade old technologies

#naysayingbitchslap

I think you missed the part where this installation has been through well over a hundred hardware changes including moving from a quad core AMD through four motherboards and three platforms before ending up on a dual six core Xeon setup?

I change my toilet seats every so often. But sometimes you should also consider changing the toilet ;)

This thread isn't about you

45-odd year old house, original toilet, what can't it do that a new one can? That was really a "k@k" analogy.

:D

Not having a flush must be a real ****ty experience

If you already own a maintenance program then I doubt there's any point getting another. I'm talking about TuneUp Utilities, but I think AVG TuneUp is the same product. If you already have Glary but are asking about other products, does that mean you're not happy with its performance?

And I bet if you ran TuneUp Utilities or something similar on your system it would find tens of thousands of things to fix. It would likely free up plenty of space, find a stack of security vulnerabilities in your settings and improve performance noticeably. And like everyone I know who has bought TuneUp Utilities based on my recommendation, you'll be a loyal customer from that day forward.

No no I'm more than happy with it, in fact having used both ccleaner and iobit I prefer Glary, but I've always been interested what sets these badboys aside when you buy the pro versions

I use both CCleaner & Glary's. Works for me. My PC is a 'working' PC & I'm always throwing all kinds of stuff at it, & these help to clean what is left behind after uninstalls.

Clean sweep

I run the free version of CCleaner daily (as a scheduled job) to clean up unnecessary files, empty the recycle bin etc.: nothing spectacular, but just in an effort to get rid of the c**p that eventually slows down a machine, wastes disk space etc.

I probably don't need to but, hey, it costs me nothing :)

That said, use CCleaner on your relative's machine that has never had any maintenance - then you'll see the difference !

I have a registered copy of Tuneup Utilities also the Free CCleaner.
After sweeping with Tuneup I use CCleaner which finds other junk.
Then back to Tuneup which finds stuff it didn't see first round.
Next a second sweep with CCleaner which finds the Houdinis.

CCleaner greys another registry entries which will probably be cleared with the upgrade.
I'd like to purchase an upgraded CCleaner but can't find a South African agent.

Tuneup looks smart and has other nice features, but unsuitable for two reasons:
The package has to be renewed annually and it comes with AVG antivirus.
That's the problem. I've wasted hundreds in cash over many years on previous antivirus but never had one.
I've always been careful about choice of websites

Blast from the past :D

I'm still on the same Windows installation which is a few months shy of eight years old now - I still haven't run a reg cleaner and still haven't had any issues :p

Joh scrolled through the time line saw this thread, thought myself mmmmm I vaguely remember having a thread like this. Opened it up saw its necro of my thread

All these cleaner tools are snakeoil crap at best and harmful to your system at worst.

Yeah that 1 man startup totally found the one trick to give your OS a speedboost - it's a secret registry tweak. Microsoft being a half a trillion company that designed the damn thing and spends millions on optimisations doesn't know about the secret button. :crylaugh:

That said CCleaner is quite useful for getting rid of temp files and stuff. Chrome in particular seems fond of accumulating crap.

I disagree. AVG TuneUp is on another level compared to what's being mentioned lately in this thread.

It does so many useful things. Keeping the registry clean, removing broken shortcuts etc. is run of the mill stuff and nice to know is being sorted I guess, but the real useful stuff is freeing up large amounts of space, deleting unused files to free up further space, having maintenance performed automatically, updating all your software with one click, checking which programs are the most burdensome on your system and being able to optimise all sorts of really obscure Windows settings that 99% of users would never know about or how to change (eg. unshared drive being accessible over the network using its letter, simultaneous connections for browser etc). And its user interface is miles ahead of any of its competition that I've seen.

yes it all works, if you are lazy to clean up your pc manually, no important info will be deleted and your computer won't get a blue screen error.

Hello,

At first I never believed in any of these programs, but lately the more and more people I talk to preach by it and I'm not sure what the experts would say?

Especially Glary Utilities

Does these programs really work? I have run all of them and I can't see any difference with or without them.

Do you perhaps know where can CCleaner be purchased in South Africa?
I have the free version.
I've been using Tuneup utilities since 1999 but it's time to move on to something better
that doesn't to to force on to also take AVG anti-virus.
That was a waste of money since I've never had a virus. Bitdefender is good enough and free.

I'm not sure I use PayPal and bitcoin for all cross border stuff.
