CCMA won't help sex worker

In law a contract is only valid if it is in keeping with the standards of the community. This is supposed to be a protection against contracts that would for example require you to give up one of your fingers if you lost a bet.
 
I don't see how this is surprising. Regardless of anyone's view on prostitution, as the law stands its illegal. The CCMA therefore clearly can't get involved, just as they couldn't mediate if a hit man or drug dealer was fired. :D
 
Yeah, the fact that she proclaims "morality" is the big laugh here? :)
Wonder what she defines as morality. I suppose it changes from person to person or depends to what is the national norm? What is acceptable ?
 
She was legally employed in a Massage parlour, and the last time i checked , that was considered a legal business, otherwise they would have been closed down.
In other words , she was legally employed , by a legal business, and should therefore be entitled to take exactly the same legal action, as any other employee in any other business.
This sort of labelling and exploitation, is exactly the type of thing, that would be properly addressed, if they simply legalised prostitution.

Well I think "massage" may be a bit of a euphemism. :D I agree it should be legalised and she should be protected, I'm just saying I can understand legally why the CCMA took the decision they did, considering how the law stands now. Maybe she defined herself as a prostitute?
 
Nah, the CCMA acted correctly here. It would have caused major problems if they interfered in this case.
