CCTV Camera System Recommendations?

I've been having nightmares over the past two days of someone breaking into my house. :(

Good or not ?
Also have a Husky Air running for the last year or so, build quality is good, image is good, software on phone and PC do the job well.

Thanks. Looking at getting that kit. Ratings on takealot is from pisspoor to very good. Some say they can't get the alarm and strobe to work through the box.

For interests sake, here are the same analogue cameras at night (there are 2 x 9w LED bulbs lighting that area, if I were to switch them off, there would not be much difference in the picture shown):

No offence, but if you think this mediocre image is good I think you'll be blown away by my R750 per camera 5mp Reolinks picture quality which don't need any NVR/PVR(they have sd cards in each of them and I have a 24 port POE switch for my home network which they connect to.

Pics please ? Where did you get it for R750 ?

If you happy then that's great.
The Hikvision darkfighters for their price are great. With any small amount of light, they stay on colour.

Darkfighters and darkfighter 2 are great, for cheaper pricing and even lower lux colour night vision I've had great results with Tiandy's super starlight 2mp cam's for my business premises use.

https://www.viscon.co.za/product/tc-c32bg-speci5w-e-4mm/

These cams can work down to 0.0004 lux which is good enough that they don't even have to include bug attracting IR LED's....makes a huge difference for false motions alerts.

I see Hikvision is a common choice for most installers, are there other vendors that can beat it for the same price?
Tiandy with a blue iris PC USING AI detection for business use or darker area's.

Reolink for home use but you will need some lighting for full colour.

Reolink has also just launched an AI camera but I haven't tried it yet so can't comment on it's effectiveness.

Will take pics later tonight when I'm home I can currently only remote view on extremely low resolution due to my Telkom ADSL line's pathethic 1mb/s upload speeds(Vumatel finally installing fibre in my area this month!)

I bought them when they went on special from Amazon R750 was total cost for each including customs and shipping etc delivered to my door.

Not sure of pricing lately but a friend bought them cheaper directly from the Reolink website and they deliver to SA for free.

Try to get their new AI cam's even if they cost a bit more AI is really the way to go if you want accurate real time alerts on your phone for any camera system in this day and age.

The Reolinks I got perform really well for the price, and all POE.

Agreed.

I'm using Reolink directly at home with a POE switch and at my business I'm using Tiandy Cams linked to a PC running blue iris with AI detection.

One huge pro of the Reolink system is that it's just plug and play,no IP address configuration etc needed,it's very easy and quick to setup.

The blue iris setup is more powerful but needs a bit of setup and I didn't really want to go through all that for my home setup where I have decent lighting around the house too so didn't need starlight cam's.

You live about 200m from me.
Probably seen you on the road and likewise you, me. Assuming you a cyclist as well

The only thing I can tell you about the alarm and strobe with tests is the following:
1. Lights will set off the motion sensor. Even a car 200m away will set it off if the headlights are pointing in it's direction ( This is even with low sensitivity and partial area monitoring ). So if you got motion detection enabled and you are in a relatively busy road, you will get constant push notifications and false alarms.
2. The strobe isn't spotlight bright but you can see it flashing.

Two way audio is cool but more a gimmick than anything else.

This is just a screenshot from my phone at low res on remote viewing, live view is obviously much much better since they go up to 5mp resolution, also the one cam(top right) is out of focus as my son dropped it when I removed it due to renovations we're currently busy with, the first cam(top left) cable also got cut during renovations and will be replaced tomorrow but the image there in the top left is basically the last time it worked at night as you can see full colour night vision.

A screenshot of the one reolink cam viewed individually through my phone's remote viewing.

Remote viewing is very simple indeed for the Reolink's,no port forwarding etc etc just login to the Reolink app and it's done you can view your cam's from anywhere anytime.

Not claiming you're wrong but where can I find info on this in law of evidence?
Thanks for the question.

I won't pretend to know the answer, except that this is the verdict from many consultants we've dealt within the industry. By *we* I mean the companies I have been involved with since early 2011.

Most cases get thrown out anyway, someone is in a blue shirt, the blue shirt looks a shade of this colour here, another colour there. How can you be sure the blue shirt is not worn by anyone else?

Can you definitely, beyond dispute (law dispute) that person was actually there?

Etc. Really, CCTV is a tough, tough thing in court.

Unfortunately, it's beyond most to educate the court on the technical aspects, so they accept good and really bad evidence from both sides.

You can say "Oh, but I know this person, he works here" and he can simply plead the person looks like him and wore clothes that might have a similar shade or whatever. Those lawyers are really good at skewing things.

EDIT: I'm not saying cases are always lost, just that it's not necessarily worth it for the homeowner to pursue.

I work for a distributor (security exclusively) and we have a good feel of the overall market, trends, and sentiment from our integrators and their end-users - our product offering is suited to larger corps mainly.

  • For those recording through Pi's or such, remember AVI, MP4 etc are not admissible in the court of law

Your post made me think you were referring to people recording on homebrew style cameras and recorders, but I see now your point is that video evidence, in general, isn't very useful in court for most cases. Did I understand you correctly?
