CCTV Camera System Recommendations?

Anyone know where you can get those L-brackets to mount a camera onto? The ones that go up and out over your boundary wall in an “L” shape?

Obvious answer is to have one made, judging by how many are around I thought you could buy them off the shelf
I thought so too but now I'm making my own.
See if you can find anything here? https://scoop.co.za/products/installation-accessories/brackets-masts/

You can also try to go to a steal manufacturer in your area and get them to make something for you?

So reolink has released their AI camera's with person/vehicle detection on the camera itself, sounds like the solution we've been waiting for, anybody tried it yet?

No more setups of blue iris and deepstack ai etc if it works well to minimise false alerts from spiders, shadows and trees etc.

Looks interesting, also supports Google Assistant! I don't mind testing these out if I can lay my hands on a few...

The price of that Reolink is not bad.

Has anyone managed to test the AI detection performance of any of these cameras? I'm sceptical that these AI object detection cameras will pick up crawling intruders or if someone wears a black plastic bag over their body.
I can't find any performance reviews online which detail how well the object detection works.

You'll only find such reviews over at ipvm.

As for crawling, even enterprise systems struggle with that.

EDIT: I realise this is post number 2019 for me, so I may not ever post again.

So I bit the bullet and ordered 2 x 4k versions and 2 x 5mp versions, will update you guys once they have arrived on how it works, but yes I'm tired of false notifications so went the blue iris/ deep stack ai route at work and doing this at home for the areas with the most false notifications.

Can the Reolink camera push bookmarks and notifications to BI? Or you going to be using the Reolink app for this information?

So to be clear,I have 2 separate systems:

At home just reolinks,6 x rlc 410's hooked up to a poe switch and I view/control via app on my phones/ipads/pc's.No NVR's or blue iris pc's here.I'll be adding the extra 4 here for areas which have too many false alerts and move the extras to not so important areas where I won't enable notifications so don't care about false alerts for the dumb old versions.

At my business premises I'm running various camera's all linked up to a POE switch, but that's all controlled/viewed through a PC using blue iris/deep stack AI.

But yes I'm sure a reolink camera can do that, especially since they new ones which feature AI also support RSTP.Would probably need to set BI to allow the cams to do the motion detection if you want them to use their on board AI to send notifications.

I'm a noob at CCTV. So without the NVR, you obviously can't broadcast your cameras to a TV? You would need a device to view?

My main reason for wanting to upgrade my 10 year old system is to be able to watch the kids when they play in they garden and swim... Thought of getting Wyze cams but then I can't watch it on the TV..

Depending on the cam. Which cam? Most network cams can be viewed on a PC or Raspberry Pi using Onvif/Rstp or other standard. Some smart TVs support streaming a cam.
Haven't bought any yet...

Would you be able to see a grid view like you do on a DVR?

With the right combination of viewing device and camera, yes... though it might be a bit of PT to set up. Which camera are you looking at? What device will it be viewed on?
Currently have an old Provision 8 channel DVR. Currently view it on my Samsung TV...

Was going to replace it with a Hikvision or Dahua 8 Channel, like a cheap R8000 package.

How much PT?

I would like a decent system but not lis to struggle to set it up and maintain it... Thoughts?

Not sure on the Samsung TV, but if you have an Android TV box you can install an app like tinyCam. In this app you can add the RTSP stream of each camera and it will show you a grid view or each camera on its own. So just make sure the camera's you buy have RTSP/ONVIF capability. I also use Reolink cameras.

Cool, so I can use tinycam on both the Samsung Tv (thorugh the TV Box and my Android phone). What about through PC?

There is free NVR software available, I use Blue Iris (a bit expensive for what you want to do). I think even VLC can handle RTSP stream, not sure if it can show the grid view. Maybe look at Zoneminder?

Thanks..this may be more effort than what Im looking to do. But worth checking it out.

If you go standard DVR route, how do you go about choosing a decent 2mp camera i.e 2.8mm vs 3,6 , dome vs bullet. There are so many online..any pointers? And is the latest thing to wire up CCTV with Cat5e and Balun connectors?

I went with the Reolink cameras because they offer good value for the price. Check out this thread for camera specific details:

You can also watch some of TheHookUp video's on Youtube, he does very good comparisons.

Just starting up this thread, but when I was a friend's place. I noticed with their newly installed 16 channel DVR set up. The installers used CAT5e cables but with some converter/transmitter for each cable to provide 12V and to receive the analogue signal. It looks like they used one pair for 12v and for Coax, but snipped off the rest for each cable. Looks unorthodox, but seems to work? All of this connects to a hikvision DVR. Anyone know of what these adapters are called?
