CCTV Port forwarding via Mega 100WR

Hi guys,

Been searching through various threads however I have gotten a bit stuck!

I have a pc dedicated to my CCTV system, I have set it up on my LAN so all I need to do is type the IP address of that PC and its gives me a web based interface which seems good enough.

I have an account at dyndns.org which points me to the login page for my router, I'm struggling with this port forwarding thing to point to my camera pc. If I look at the DVR software, it gives me port 8080 and 8081.

I know somehow I will need to type http://username.dyndns.org:8080 ?

I have looked on portforward.com , added two rules which I think points to 10.0.0.199 (my camera pc)

but http://username.dyndns.org gives my router login and http://username.dyndns.org:8080 / 8081 gives page cannot be found?

any ideas?

How do I go about the dynamic IP address issue with dyndns? from what I understand, I need to tell my router to update dyndns everytime it connects. How do I set this up in my router?

if you test it from inside your network you get the router login from outside you get the CCTV pc. Baffled me for 30min that did.
 
Can you access the CCTV PC on that port from another PC on your LAN? If you can then you at least know its a router portforwarding problem. So you've got 2 rules that route inbound connections on 8080 and 8081 to your CCTV PC? Does that PC have a static IP to ensure it doesn't change?

Depending on your router it might have an option to enter DynDns details somewhere which it will then update automatically, otherwise you'll have to run a DynDNS app on one of your PC's.
 
I have the same setup and it works like a dream DynDns on the router and ports forwarded to the pc (pc must have static IP). The remote app or the browser app looks for the ports set in the program so you dont have to put the port number in the URL. If you try access it on the local network with the dnydns URL you will end up at the router page, access it offsite from a diff internet connection and you'll get the CCTV app, locally you connect to the pc by punching the IP into your web browser.
 
Instead of using the Web interface for the DVR Server try using the Remote Viewer Software. The Remote viewer works withing the LAN as well as via the internet.

Sometimes that struggles too better to punch in the IP locally and the URL remotely. It struggles to resolve the URL on the local network gets stuck at the router looking for a port.
 
Me, I use whatever the client has and I install AVtech hardware based DVR's and Sesco or Eagle Software based DVR's primarily but use others depending on the price range or application the client wants. Dont know what Daz is using.
 
I'm using a Kodicom, 16 channel - its a cheapie but has been working for about 6months, bust one or two guys so its paid for itself already.

It acts as a server so without much setup, you can simply type the ip address in IE (not mozilla) and it works fine.

I have tried Radmin, only problem is it doesn't show video, only the frames etc- some sort of direct x problems - apparently its a radmin thing.

But I've been wondering how to setup this up for sometime now.

any PC on this LAN can see the dvr screen, you simply need to type the ip in a browser, but you could do this before any setup - even with a simple switch. I Don't quite know how to test the port, never understood the port thing:)

In my router, telkom's Mega 100WR I go to the port forwarding page, category = user and I added 2 rules for the camera pcs IP 10.0.0.199 (static) - TCP, port start = 8080, port end=8080, port map=8080. For the 2nd rule i changed this to 8081

thats all I have done with the router setup so I presume I am missing something?

the dvr pc is static, my pc isn't - but i don't see this as a problem?
testing with 3G gives me the same router login page,

thanks Gunny, that worked, I had entered it, i just never enabled the DMZ.

Like you said, from withing my LAN, i get to my router login, if i go via 3g or the neighbour's ADSL I get the DVR screen login etc, just some setting on the dvr or on the neighbours PC does not let me get in, gives me the same error msg that I get if I used the incorrect password, but i'll sort that out.

Radmin from my PC doesn't work but I presume that it is because i'm in the same LAN, i'll try it through the dyndns at some time.
