Cctv Solution (remote viewing via app essential)

So unfortunately I am a statistics now being part of armed robbery last Friday. Luckily nobody was hurt other than our confidence in already broken South Africa.

I need to find a solution to monitor movement outside my property. Very important that this be linked to Internet (I have 4 meg uncapped) and get immediate alerts when movement happens and also access via smart phone app.

Now I have looked at some ip wireless camera but not sure if this is the right solution and they are very expensive.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well if you need intelligent monitoring then sighthound is pretty good and we'll priced.
 
We use Raysharp HD dvr units with Nihon CCTV HD cameras. Quality is fantastic and there are several ways of accessing your unit. We purchase our equipment from Syntech in Cape Town. They are suppliers so don't sell directly to the end user but you could probably contact them to find out about preferred installers or resellers in your area. Check out www.syntech.co.za
 
Movement is very difficult to monitor. Our cameras do it but default and only record on motion but the wind sets then off, trees move, bugs fly past. I would imagine this would be a bit irritating if you had it set to alarm mode!

We used our outside beams as a trigger to monitor our cctv.

I was looking at these ones from Samsung. It comes with 500gb. The cool thing about the Samsung app is that you can define zones within a picture (you draw the block) which should eliminate unnecessary alarms.

They are quite pricey though but at least something I can DIY.

What do you think of them?

Hence the suggestion for human detection before notifications.
 
Hikvision systems will do motion detection as well as a defined " virtual trip wire" which is a slightly more intelligent form of motion detection.

You'll find their analog HD systems will offer this on one channel on the HGHI-SH HD analog models and on all channels on their IP systems.

Will have a look at them thank you. Do you know local website where I can view specs? Google didn't help...
 
We used Vivotek throughout for our village security. I have an Ubiquiti cam. Both have decent software and remote via via web/app. (Vivotek web is IE only)

Thank you for the help. So there are 2 systems I am eyeing. The Hikvision hd turbo looks good but I don't see anything about remote Internet access? The other one is made of Sony ahd 720 cameras which look very good.

What you guys think? Also want to know if anyone ever bought form this place?

Is cost the reason you prefer analogue over IP cameras?

I will never go back to analogue after seeing how awesome IP cameras are. If I could go back in time and do it over again I would go IP all the way.

I agree but budget doesn't allow me to look at ip. Where can I get pvr + 4 ip cameras and all cabling for 6k?
 
You can get 4x 1.3mp hikvision bullets for R1500 each. Use an old pc with the free pcnvr software, couple of meters of Cat5 and a network switch and I'm guessing for ~R7000 you end up with a system that you will be VERY happy with.

Well I have a pc that I use as server with plex etc. What I have read is that is uses a lot of processing power and that won't work for me as we have stuff streaming from it all the time.

Is this correct?
 
I have a dedicated cctv pc (Pentium G3020 I think with 6GB RAM and 4TB of HDD). It runs a geovision dvr pci-e card without hardware compression for 6 analogue cameras doing motion detection recording. On top of that it runs pcnvr as well for four hikvision IP cameras. I think I'm pushing its abilities a bit but that gives you an indication of what is needed.

Personally I would keep CCTV and media server separate.
 
Every single cheapy system will have remote viewing.

Hikvision do it too.
