Need some info,

Now the problem is at night, these cameras just do not do the trick and the distance is terrible.

Would connecting a better camera to the DVR help?

Or is it a combination of crap DVR and crap cameras?

When watching the video it pixelates very badly

thats quite high up for those cameras.
if you are happy with the daytime qaulity adding a strong ir illuminator might be good enough.

How much would something like that cost? More than the camera?

420tvl lines isn't very good. You can get 600+ and there is a huge difference expecially night.
