Hi,

Well I just got myself a new SATA HDD to replace one of my two IDE HDDs. One of the reasons was because I wanted to use my cd-rom drive again and my board (m2n sli deluxe ASUS) only has one IDE pluggin.

So last night I tried and tried again to get the blasted cd-rom drive SATA drive and IDE drive working together.

Eventually I figured out that when I have my cd-rom drive without the IDE hdd it works. If I have the HDD and the cd-rom on it only detects the hdd. I tried changing the jumper settings and cable select settings but to no avail.

Has anyone got any ideas for me? I'm sure this will work (pretty sure I had this setup in my old pc).

Don't set it to cable select, pick a master and slave drive and jumper accordingly

Were both the CD drive and hard drive's jumper settings changed to cable select?

You might want to specify the hard drive as primary master and CD as primary slave.

Don't want to judge your knowledge, just want to make sure that you have the HDD on Master and the cdrom on slave? It's this or the cdrom is fscked. Maybe try another cdrom if you have one available.

I have tried with two different cd rom drives, the one doesnt have jumper settings not sure about the other.

Um my SATA hdd is my new primary disk (windows etc) if I change the IDE hdd to primary on jumper settings wont that override the SATA hdd, or are jumper settings only for the ribbon

+1 also make sure that the HDD is the last device on the cable, the CD rom must be below it.

Nope... but you must set the SATA as the boot drive in the bios though

connect the hdd and the cd rom on the cable and go change your master and slave settings in the setup.
make the hdd master and the rom slave
