As you know I have been having problems with it working on and off. It's decided to work again for now but it seems to be making a noice as the cd is playing, is that normal

I dont know we have had it since about July and only now making a noise so I dont know we getting it swopped anyways

I swapped my Samsung DVD writer 7 times! In a matter of 4 months!
They fixed it 3 times, an swapped it the rest of the time.

Wriiten about 20-25 dvd a day. Is that to much, I doubt it

Optical drives have a limited lifespan depending on how much you use them. It's silly to think that they're going to last forever, sooner or later they have to be replaced.

My LG packed up recently:
1) it would only read DVDs. CDs were a mystery to it ....
2) The only thing that could eject it was Nero (after a burn process.) The eject button on front did half an eject (once in 50 presses it would eject properly.) Explorer couldn't eject it properly either.

Got a BenQ. Cheap. Works. Happy.

I have only had mine sing\ce July 2006 so dont expect it to pack up now but hey I am getting another one soon so cant really complain can i?

The lifespan is not dependent on how long you have it, it's dependent on how often you use it.

my LG DVD-RW gave in after 10 months, swapped it out and it just gave in now again after 10-11 months.

I've got two DVD drives in my pc.

The cheap Mustek DVD-Rom drive is used for playing all CDs, install from disc, etc.

My Sony DVD-writer is only used for burning DVDs & CDs. Had it now for almost a year and still going strong... ;)

ive had my dvd rom for 2 years no problems and my dvd writer for 1.5 years :)

but they are gigabyte and lite-on
