Got this problem..

I had this cd-rom of mine for almost a year now. it's a lightscribe model.

It only opens once, and then it kind of gets confused when u want to open it up again? anyone had this similar problem?

Maybe I should just buy a new one?
prefered makes?

Didnt know u get lightscribe cd roms :) Im sure u meant a dvd rw - If its more than a year old u should just chuck it and buy a new one -- that stuff is dirt cheap, i think it retails for about R200 odd. I prefer LG opticals, simply because i`ve been selling it for the last 4 odd years and no come backs. Hey but thats just me :)

I think it's about time to replace that ;) I have two Samsung DVD-RW drives and I quite like them :)

Samsung is cool, but it tends to pack up just after a year,;) they should stick to making LCD`s and whatever else they make ;LOL; I suppose the choice is personal :)

I have one Samsung DVD-ROM here that's been going strong for nearly 5 years ;) And my DVD-RW drives are still fine after two and a half years.

5 years for a dvd rom - u must take great care of it - i replaced a Samsung dvd combo drive on wednesday after the client only had it for 10 months, but it was a really dusty system and i know that affects its lifespan, just to clear the confusion - i also sold some samsung dvd roms and writers about 2 years back and its still going strong. Im just looking at it on average. I get more Samsung drives in that`s faulty than any other manufacturers

Sony Dvd rw are not bad either but I prefer LG as they tend to last longer but slows down after a while but still do the job, just a little longer.

maybe it could be linked to dirt?

hek the other day I opened may case to install a new hd and there was a layer of dust all over the inside of the case.
