Cedega On Ubuntu

ok ok i guess paying 1.6k over a period of time for something that performs worse than windows is being pro active :)

Like that.

How long will it take to spend R1 600 on cedega? Bearing in mind, if you read w1zard's post above, you'll see he's spent $5 on cedega, ever.

nvm: not responding to the troll anymore.

cool beans

wont point out linux's downfalls again

o and windows is not better than linux in day to day but for gaming it is

im not pulling stuff outta thin air, go google cedega and see all the problems it has when converting to opengl although opengl games run better but how many games are opengl these days, maybe if more where cedega would be worth it

You can't seem to grasp the most simple of concepts:

MORE MONEY FOR LINUX GAME DEVELOPERS = BETTER LINUX GAMES = MORE PEOPLE PLAYING GAMES ON LINUX = MORE GAMES FOR LINUX.

Microsoft are one of the biggest corporations on the planet, and they charge R1.6k for a piece of software.

Cedega is a small bunch of people working on an emulator to run Windows games on Linux, and they charge... R40?

Hmm...

Er, when did you do that? When you gave the Youtube link?

If you actually had some real experience and were able to point to specifics, your post might have had some credibility.
You're actually wrong about the OpenGL thing. Seeing as M$ initially wanted to move OpenGL above the D3D layer in Vista, I would say most gaming houses would've interpreted this as a reason to support OpenGL less than DirectX. Yes, I'm aware that the legacy ICD and 3rd party ICD routes are still open, but legacy means it comes from WinXP and might not work with Vista, and 3rd party means extra effort from the OEM, which leads right back to my point several pages back about the market and the users being there.
Even if this were not an issue, there would still have to be a launcher binary that offers the OpenGL option for Linux. I have only seen that with UT classic, 2k3 and 2k4, which by the way ran very nicely on Linux, (and still do on a 64 bit distro that came out several years later). There were others, Soldier of Fortune was another one. It can still be done via SDL on Linux, but once again, why should the gaming houses bother if they don't see a market?
Hence the use of emulators and hence this thread.

i game on DOS 7.10 and all you fanboys can go get bent!

hah!

Well at least they've got USB support on that sucker now so you can browse your pr0n and play Death Rally directly from the memory stick .

BTW, the old DOS games I still occasionally play run very nicely on DOSBox. Hmm, let's see that's also open source. Ooops, just ignore that then .

killadoob are you deliberately ignoring the people who are telling you that you only need pay the $5 once?

no honestly im confused as to why u guys say this when the site says

Renewing Subscription (Per month, minimum 3 month purchase; 5 USD per month)

if its 5 dollars once off then yea awesome, nothing wrong maybe im getting the wrong end of stick and you guys are correct its only once off

the sign up page 5 dolla per month or 55 dolla per year which makes me think they charge per month with a min of 3 month installment to begin

fsk as far as i know opengl is very limited alot more so than directx unless im wrong and everyone is using directx because of microsoft which i doubt as windows plays both opengl and directx

So sorry if I made the directx vs opengl peeps rowdy :P

So I need to spend 15 dollars to test cedega? Is there no way to trial it without paying - I first want to see if I can get my games to work before I commit financially - is there a free trial option or worst case scenario a piracy option to test.

Thanks
J
