Cedega On Ubuntu

Actually, normally open-source users are pretty chilled unless the other one chooses gnome/emacs/some distro different to mine. :)

Yeah, we're chilled until someone is wrong :p

Note: If you don't use KDE, pico, Ubuntu, Gentoo or Opera; you are wrong :D

KDE, pico WTH? fluxbox and vi FTW :p:D

That's what I use at work :p
At home I am running fluxbox on Gentoo.

Actually, you know what? I am running modified Window Manager version of emacs I wrote in FORTRAN on my netBSD box, using a text editor that requires input in the form of farted morse code. I don't even have a modem, I just whistle the correct tones down the phone line as I discuss the merits of monolithic kernals on Usenet.

And I happen to like Gentoo, and... Opera :o

I use fluxbox if I dont have the hardware to run KDE ;) And yes, I like Ubuntu. Gentoo is nice, if you like compiling for hours and hours on low spec hardware for a 0.2% performance gain.

vi ftw! :wq!

N00b.

I tried to install NetBSD a couple of times. I mostly got it right but I just dont like doing an installation that requires me to have a calculator around.

Hah, back when I were a lad we had to first bootstrap the compiler by typing in hex over a 1200bps serial line with only a tty for hexdump. Then we had to boot into a microkernel and patch the code for the TCP stack by hand before we could even go onto Usenet :p:D.

ok i am the only one who does not understand that you have to pay for something that that performs worse than windows in terms of gaming?

you paying for something that does not work as well as windows with games

as for why ppl use linux, its because its free and mostly they dislike microsoft

price linux up at the same price point as windows and i highly doubt ppl would spend that kinda money on linux

i dont care if you want to use linux use it, but dont come and tell me cedega is good because its not

costs money and your performance is worse, not all games run on it either

someone mentioned world of warcraft or whateva
so that would mean your paying for it plus paying for cedega

does this make sense to anyone because it does not to me

i did try an earlier version of cedega on lindows :) didnt work with bf 2 at all

cedega you pay for
performance and getting a game to run is hit and miss according to many okes on the ubuntu forums

windows you pay for once and it works with any game

yes cedega seems like a logical choice to me :)

wtf?

You are pulling that outta your ass.

Get all the vendors to write natively for linux like they are forced to by Microsoft and people would. Wake up dude. You are clueless.

I still have my copy of Cedega I paid for AGES ago. It runs WoW. And no I dont pay a monthly sub because I didnt need any more game updates. I think your rather wrong perception of Cedega is clearly based on an almost complete lack of understanding of the package.

i did try an earlier version of cedega on lindows :) didnt work with bf 2 at all

I feel for you. I suppose you best keep to enjoying shiny objects because I put my copy in and it worked first time. Not everyone is smart enough to run simple applications.

windows you pay for once and it works with any game

yes cedega seems like a logical choice to me :)

I actually wanna get a stick and beat you for your complete lack of understanding at how property software, corporate cutbacks and lack of vendor support... but it would not be fair on the stick.

Dude... windows is PERFECT for you. Never change. Seriously.

Is it school holidays or something?

awwww wizard why do you get so defensive about cedega its a crappy pay service rip off

windows is the business for gaming and now all the linux okes are like i play my games in linux even though i pay every month and performance is worse

im so cool i dont use windows for gaming even though its far superior

keep your linux and attitude you tool, i'll keep enjoying dx 10 games and dx 9 games that run like a dream on windows that i paid for 4 years ago and dont need to pay a cent more to play games

keep paying your 5 dolla's and your poor performing cedega rubbish :)

check what he has to go through just to launch the game

by the time he has launched the game im already playing on sgs

You are so full of crap, it is unbelievable. How does the OS people choose to play their games on make any difference to you in any way? I, for one, support Linux (though not for any of the reasons you have stated), and thus will do whatever I can to ensure the gaming industry sees that I would like to play games on it. Perhaps if you actually listened to what other people had to say about it instead of pulling rubbish facts out of your uneducated ass you might understand that it is no fault of Linux itself that games are not made for it, but rather the industry. Linux is superior to Windows in EVERY. SINGLE. ASPECT except when it comes to gaming, and that is simply because a predominant number of gamers are as retarded as you are and refuse to see the benefits of a free, stable, non-memory-instensive OS.

i have not once said it makes a difference

all i have said is cedega is not worth it because you have to pay for it and it does not perform as well as windows

you guys are freakin out because im saying this

i dont care what OS you use, again all i said was cedega does not seem worth it because its performance is lacking and it cost 5 dolla a month or update

linux is a great OS as i have learnt from these forums and i have no problems with ppl who use it, thats their choice

so im not sure why everyone is gettin all upset with me pointing out those 2 facts about cedega

wizard get over yourself dude, if you cannot have an agruement with ppl and not attack them im glad your not longer in this thread

hope i see on bf 2 cause your game will be running so slow on cedega, when i teabag you it will take 4 times longer hahaha

anyways whateva i guess you cannot make any comments or point out anything bad about certain things on linux witout ppl freakin out yet these same ppl have lots of bad things to say about windows

peace and love to all :) even linux gamers

We're not freaking out because you are saying cedega is useless, we are freaking out because you are pulling the facts for that statement out of your ass. Have you actually tried to run a game on Cedega recently? And by recently I mean within the last month or two.

killa, we're discussing a way for linux users to play windows games in the OS of their choice. Nobody has said that playing games through cedega is superior to playing them on the platform they were designed for.

You don't see the need for this - fine. Play in another thread.

What people here have a problem with are your deliberate misrepresentations of the costs of cedega and the reasons people might choose linux, among other things.

+1

Never has anyone stated that Linux is a superior gaming platform to Windows, in fact what we are all saying is that most of us still use Windows for gaming because Linux gaming is not yet at a point where it can rival Windows. Yet here you are, fanatically bashing Cedega because it costs a small amount of money, when you are happy to pay R1600 for your OS. The fact is that the world revolves around money, and honestly, if paying Cedega money means that gaming on Linux starts to make headway against gaming on Windows, I am going to pay it. Because, unlike you, I want to be proactive about it, rather than just sitting there sucking facts out of thin air as to why Windows will always be better.

ok ok i guess paying 1.6k over a period of time for something that performs worse than windows is being pro active :)

cool beans

wont point out linux's downfalls again

o and windows is not better than linux in day to day but for gaming it is

im not pulling stuff outta thin air, go google cedega and see all the problems it has when converting to opengl although opengl games run better but how many games are opengl these days, maybe if more where cedega would be worth it
