I was just about to say something very similar.

I think the reason MTN has been able to expand so aggressively is because of the lucrative SA market that was created thanks to Telkom's ridiculous prices. If they had to charge reasonable prices for their services I doubt they would have been able to fund their aggressive expansion like they have been doing.
