Cell C and Vodacom roaming issues

Hi all, hoping someone can help out.

I have been traveling from Gauteng to the Western Cape today and whenever my iphone is connected to a cell c tower I have no issues. The problems come in as soon as there are no cell c towers around and my phone connects to a Vodacom tower. I have full voice/SMS functionality but absolutely no data throughput. I was under the impression that cell c could roam on vodacoms 2G network, but I am unable to access any online content whatsoever. This is extremely frustrating and makes me feel as if I'm back in the 90's.

I have experienced the issue before, but it has never bothered me as I am generally connected to a cell c tower.

Any help would be appreciated!

Change your apn to "internet".
Look in settings - cellular - cellular data network
 
I don't think changing APN will help. When roaming you are still using Cell C data network. I observed that Vodacom 3G tower can accept registration of Cell C SIM but do not give any throughput. Device (not only iPhone) can be stuck to such tower forever. Solution is to manually disable 3G modem when roaming.

I have had this problem, and it worked for me.
By default cellc simcard apn's are cellc.apple.za or something like that, and will not work on vodacom.
Change it to "internet" and it works on both. It's worked for me.
 
I know its not roaming in the strict sense, but try to enable "Data Roaming" in Cellular settings.

It worked! thanks! If only the cell c customer care was competent enough to make these kind of suggestions.
 
old thread revive. I have the 100GB special and no where does it state that only works on cell c towers. I am out in colchester and need to use data but does not seem to work. got it in a tplink 4g router. APN is internet but still does not work. have put sim card in 2 phones. and when on cell c tower works but as soon as roam no data and data roaming is enabled

Giga100 bundle (like many other specials) works only on Cell C towers - no roaming, read T&C.
