Cell C contract price hikes

“The review is part of our commitment to improve transparency and simplicity, while maximising the value our customers receive on our products,” Cell C said.

Increasing prices is maximising [-]profit[/-] value.

Time for another banner!

strange that Cell C is increasing data costs.... have their prices been unsustainable like others in the industry said?
have they lost too much market share, and need to increase income? it could put strain on existing users to stay as well.
i've been wanting to use Cell C for data at my parents place from January, as both vodacom, telkom, mtn signal is too crap to use, even on bad edge, only Cell C has HSPA signal.
maybe gotta buy enough prepaid data now, but i guess they will increase the prepaid (x data for12 months) as well?

raise prices by 5-10%, lose 1% of customers .. still make a profit.

But
Move to the same price brackets as other providers with a crappy network and you lose much more. The only thing they have going is pricing, once that's gone they are well behind the rest.

What happens to existing contract customers and their monthly subscription. Certainly my StraightUp 100 cannot change since it is a contract?

They can't change the monthly data and minutes on your cellphone. However, they can and have changed the "out of bundle" amount.

They can change the price annually and give you 30 days notice. Did you read the contract?

All in all though its just a 5c increase per minute, the added cost for a straight up R100 and above is not an actual increase but rather adding value with more reasonable data volumes now included with the package. The straight up contracts are still great value for money though compared to the other networks with exorbitant call rate if you dare go out of bundle!

I'm glad they finally scrapped those rubbish smartchat bundles with more data than minutes since they didn't really offer great value anyway.

The only question remains now is what about their best value product aka "CHATMORE 200 and 400"?I hope those don't fall away.
