I wonder if anyone could help

I have a HP Compaq 6710b laptop with a built in modem (HP hs2300 HSDPA Broadband Wireless Module)
I got the laptop from Vodacom with a data plan which has now come to an end.

I looked around and found the Cell C prepaid data plan (24Gb for 12 months)
I purchased the data plan without the modem (My reasoning being that I already have a modem)

It WILL NOT CONNECT.

I have 2 different versions of the vodacom software. The older one (that HP bundles with its drivers) sees the sim card (I recieved SMS,s from Cell C) but will not connect.
It tells me "no hardware available"

The other Vodacom software (a newer version) finds the device, enables the device, detects the different sim and asks to create connection settings to match current sim, then comes and tells me to insert the correct SIM.

I went onto the Cell C website looking for solutions. They have lots of software for the speedsticks, but not much else.
I tried the Cell C Data card, USB modem software and dashboard software and got told "Device not found" everytime.

I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers software for the modem from HP

I spoke to Cell C "technical department" and was told that they only do software for the speedsticks, and I must go buy one.

Has anyone else had the same problem?
Does anyone know of a solution?

I looked on one of the other posts about this (google sourced) and they recomended using the MDMA software.
The MDMA software finds the moden, then wants to use the dial-up to connect and comes back and tells me it cant get dial tone...

So I give up...

Hoping someone can help

Thanks

According to this here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...5500&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Cell C uses 900Mhz WCDMA which that module doesn't support( some places use 2100Mhz as well which it does support but that's a coin toss with location)
Its also pretty old tech - max download speed is only 3.6Mbps - your speeds would be limited.

Better to go get a stick or ask CellC if you can change what you've bought maybe

Firstly: have you checked coverage?

Your modem does not seem to support 900Mhz UTMS.

Cell C uses this frequency in most locations. Get another modem.

That said, you should still be able to connect with your current modem but it will be dog slow.

To connect via MDMA you need to manually create a dial up connection using your 3G card as modem and not the internal analog modem (the dial tone error that you are getting).
