Hi Guys

Alot of people are having data problems on the Cell C Network. The problem lies in the spectrum their using, namely the 900mhz spectrum. This spectrum is excellent for indoor use but if you don't have proper data capacity to support then we end up with the problem many of us are having.

Now what i have discovered is my phone or device will choose the best spectrum to use which has best signal, 900mhz or 2100mhz.

On my Samsung Galaxy S2, I found a setting to change which signal i want to use. I set it 2100mhz and WOW the net is back up again. Im able to browse and good speeds. Tested downloading in my area and its around 2Mb speed. Good enough for me.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone, try this

1. enter *#0011# on the dial screen
2. Press menu button and select Back
3. Select Phone Control
4. Select Network Control
5. Select Band Selection
6. Select WCDMA Band
7. Choose WCMDA 2100

Exit the service mode by pressing home button and Wait a minute for a new connection to establish or Maybe give a restart.

Your connection will re-establish and you should be surfing with good speeds.

If you have other phones or devices, check on XDA forums for phones services codes and try this.

Note: Reception on the 2100mhz not that great as compared to 900mhz but u are have internet access again.

Thanks to this thread, i managed to find a solution:

Hope that helps.. I will look for solution for setting the WCDMA mode on data cards

We've had this for a while now:

At home I usually get better speeds on 900MHz than on 2100MHz from the same base station.

Device: Huawei E1820
RSSI: -95dBm (Poynting LPDA0044 / ADPT-026)
CellID: 40544 (2100MHz)
QoS: 21000/3968

Speedtest.net server: MTN Business Johannesburg

Nice to know. In my area, 900mhz is stuffed. Can barely open up mybroadband page. Will investigate the different IP's.

... Oh my....did it on my S4. NEVER HAD INTERNET AT HOME, now I do... Thanks!

Wondering if it will be the same at work tomorrow (jhb cbd)

Kind of explain why they are keeping the 2100mhz spectrum for LTE...

LOL

Next time one of you speaks to a cell C techie tell him their engineers have f@#ked up their inter-frequency/carrier loading.....

this fix of yours should be done automatically by the network, not by the user.

Becareful guys not play around 2 much with other settings or u can stuff up settings and will need to factory reset to restore default settings

Been highly irritated with my iPhone. I resorted to doing a test with my old Nokia E71 with prepaid. Think your conclusions are accurate.

No data on my iphone, not even whatsapp. On the old Nokia, my speeds are around 300Kb/s.

Amazing. This worked for me. I get speeds of 2mbps. Way more than the EDGE speeds that I am used to.

iPhone is a bit tricky when doing advanced system changes. I think you need to jail break first. If under warranty i advise not to.

Tested this now.
Started up the speed test app before I tried and it could not locate server, tried again, same thing.
I followed the instructions, fired up the app again and got the following results:
Ping: 114ms
Download: 4777kbps
Upload: 1711kbps

Thanks for the advice!

I have a S2 running CM10.1, i dont see this menu coming up after that code in step 1, is it like dialing a USSD?

What is the impact of doing this in terms of coverage? Because it locks you to a single band, won't you be out of coverage a lot more than you would be with the phone autoselecting?

I have full signal all the way
