Morning. Happy new year!

Quick question. I took out a contract with Cell C about 7 years ago. Once it was done, I ported along with the number to VC.

No problems.

Last week, I received a message saying that my number has been RICA'd and that whatever number was on the starter pack should be ignored, my new Cell C number is the number that I have been using for 7 years.

Since then I have been receiving calls and messages from people I dont know, saying that I called them.

Has Cell C re-issued my number on their network? That is what is sounds like to me. How do we cancel the other line because this is clearly a duplication and my number should be the one that remains active.

strange how is it even possible, call routing wise etc....

could be some form of spoofing ?

No idea but the calls that I have been getting are weird. And when I finally got a call from someone who could speak english, he told me had a call from my number..so he was calling to see who it was.

I suggest you tread very cautiously, you might be the victim of an identity theft scam. Report it ASAP to your bank, the SAPS and Cell C. Make sure you get reference numbers and case numbers, and keep all the documentation safe.

Should your bank account be emptied out, you will be screwed. The banks won't cover you unless you've reported it.

I might be over-reacting, but better safe than sorry. It usually starts off with a cloned SIM card, or a fraudulent SIM swap. Also looks like they choose a good time of year to attack, when everyone is either closed or on a go-slow.

It could be possible that cellc made a mistake and the system reallocated your number on a staterpack.

That said routing wise since you are receiving the calls it means they are routed to your network BUT on network calls like cellc caller might be going to that simcard......
