Cell C frustration

I recently got swayed by all the marketing and pricing of Cell C to port my number. That has been the biggest mistake and the source of all my frustration. Dropped calls, no reception, pathetic customer service is all that I have experienced. I was burgled two months ago and at the most critical time when my alarm company needed to get hold of me I had no reception. When I phoned back after they left a voice mail they could not hear me at all. I actually went to go and listen to the recording. To add to that I was not in some remote location where there should not be reception, this was in Cape Town CBD.

So I went to the Cell C store at Bayside mall to try and find out what I can do to improve reception. The lady tells me there is nothing to be done other than to fill in a form. To what purpose she could not tell me, they send the forms in and that was all she knew. I got a new sim card, tried it in different phones and in tablets but had no luck.

Cell C will never see me again and I will advise everyone to stay as far away from them as possible.
They might be cheaper but beware of cheap imitations!

I hope you're on prepaid, so porting to Vodacom or 8ta is easy. Good luck.

I feel your pain. I really do. I fell into the same trap. I have filled in and sent back these forms a 100 times. To no avail. I have used every conceivable point of contact, Facebook, Hellopeter, Store, Call Centre... I have asked nicely and I have gone on like someone with Rabies. You speak to someone or get a reply from some faceless pleb with initials, TK and TB and FU and what not (which you will probably receive a couple of replies further on here - just be careful, don't get your hopes up) and then nothing comes from it.

I just cannot accept that there is absolutely no recourse, we are completely unprotected with the toothless CPA and it is as simple as money is being stolen from us every single month without as much as a ****stain of service for it.

Thanks for the heads up.

Rather the devil you know! I am with Vodacom and although they are more expensive and their deals are not the best, I can count on decent coverage, which I value more.

I do hope you get sorted out though! I wonder if the CBD is part of the 3% that isnt covered by Cell C

Thanks for all the replies. I am planning to port to Vodacom as I absolutely can not afford to not be reached by clients. My OP was a bit of a rage post after a client phoned me three times and they could not hear me when I answered. I am not at all interested in whose fault it is at this point and AKC can go fly a kite for all that I care. I'm tired of battling and even though it might cost me more I am willing to pay for service. Those words might come back to bite me though but the loss of income hurts much more.

I'm busy canceling my own contract right now.

I must say however, reception on the west coast seems to have gotten dramatically better over the last couple of days.
If only we had some feedback from Cell C on this. If they could tell me that they are working on X and it will be stable and fixed in Y amount of days then I may be willing to stick it out.
As it is I have no choice but to continue with the cancellation process.

Update

I ported to Vodacom and immediately after the port I had full call quality where ever I have been. A Cell C rep phoned me before the port and the call quality was so bad that he asked me if I have a land line that he can contact me on. I was not in the mood to go through the frustration of having to give a phone number over a broken connection so I just said I am porting away and am not interested in trying to identify and fix the problem.

I've been in an ugly fight with Cell C for 6.5 of the 7 months that I've been a customer of theirs. I've filled in countless forms, trolled them often on their social media pages, but they're completely disinterested in rectifying the problem. I've even offered for them to reimburse a big data bundle that I stupidly purchased so that I may be on my merry way, but I'm nowhere closer to having a smile on my face. You WILL NOT find a solution apart from porting to another provider. I'm going out today to buy a prepaid 8ta SIM, with which I'll conduct some tests in the areas where Cell C sucks (pretty much everywhere).

If you have reference numbers, log a complaint with icasa , it works!!

I am also having problems with cellC, I stay in the Cape Town CBD.

My phone is one of those cheap ones that fortunately accomodates two sims. My primary vodacom number works fine but the cellC one constantly shows "emergency". It seems to work again after I reboot the phone but only for a few minutes.
