Cell C investigating sale

Cell C investigating sale: report

Cell C is working with Goldman Sachs to assess the possibility of a sale, according to reports

It's been three years the shareholders want to sell. The only issue is a massive gap in the valuation, France Telecom (Orange) sent an audit team in 2012 because they're interest in a presence in SA but gave up because of the price.

Maybe, since the write-off, they will ask for less.

I agree with Alen. I think at the end of the day the only viable option will be two big cell phone companies who competes directly against each other, probably Vodacom and MTN. The smaller companies will be usurped by these two.

Should read resurrection instead of sale, because it died a while back

There is a spot for a third operator when Cell C can be taken over by a strong partner with deep pockets.
I do not trust those old crooks VC and MTN very much, after all they criminally colluded to increase the interconnection fees five fold in 2001.

This will impact the consumer the most.

Cell C, despite their crappy network, put pressure on Vodacom and MTN to drop prices, and we saw some significant drops in call rates.

Yes the only way I see this being a win for consumers and business is if Telkom buys out Cell C,3 big mobile operators will be good for competition rather than just MTN/Vodacom who have demonstrated in the past that they cannot be trusted without competition in the market.

Telkom mobile needs the subscriber numbers and have great infrastructure so they can turn it profitable easily.

Telkom Mobile should merge with Cell C. I would like Cell C to carry on existing. I just don't won't do business with them after my contract ends because their network is terrible.

Maybe if they spend a few billion on it, it will be okay, but for now, it is awful.

I think that this is the best way forward. Cell C needs to be bought by someone big. Either Telkom or Orange could make a move.
