Cell C LTE here in 2015

Only about 2 years later than everyone else?

Has this improved data and connection issues in Joburg?

:erm:

CellC doesn't have the capital the other two giants have. MTN is one of the largest operators in the world, as is Vodacom (read Vodafone).
Telkom is not big as MTN and Voda but they have LTE and now LTE Advance. Cell C could have cherry picked the deployement of LTE to areas where ROI would be much quicker.

I cannot see how they will get enough transmission to their sites while they are still struggling to provide proper 3G speeds

They will take the 3G equipment from the stations upgrade to LTE and give your station 3G :p

I think my base station currently has 512k dialup...

Telkom have better toys to play with, they are the national operator, you know

Havent experienced CellC yet, have been with MTN and Vodacom all my life - maybe time to give them a shot..
Checking coverage...

Nope.

Telkom doesn't have 2G and instead uses that spectrum resource to rollout LTE. One of the (possibly only) advantage(s) of entering the market later.

Telkom has an entire fibre backbone built over 20+ years - so yes wthey were in a much better starting position than CellC.

So the upgrades are done, why not switch in on from now already?

So will this improve the quality of the overall network?

Yes it should definitely since LTE uses spectrum much more efficiently and fiber to the towers ensures there's enough back haul to handle lots of users

But they still are not giving an actually time line for LTE,come on Cell C give me some LTE or at least a date we can look forward to and sort out your no throughput issue in Fordsburg(JHB),whenever I'm there I get full signal on HSDPA but extremely slow speeds cant even browse properly, why?

Have experienced decent data throughput in most other areas though in JHB.

What is this a symptom of?

Insufficient Backhaul?
Tower overload - sheer number of people connected (or would that stop you getting signal in the first place?)
Other network issues?

I got this on CellC often and I get it in London too in certain areas.

What I also see in London is almost non-existent LTE connectivity yet data speeds are good

Nope, maybe the "RAN upgrades" they speak of will improve something. However LTE will do nothing for 90% of their subscribers as most of them will not have/can not afford LTE devices.

Until the number of LTE devices jumps to 40-50% of the subscriber base, there will be no benefit to 2G and 3G only customers.

However, as Cell C is using its "4GS" spectrum for LTE, this means that some 3G/HSPA capacity will decrease...so its a give and take between the two.

So probably in 5 years time the quality will improve :)

But that would mean people like me and others currently with LTE phones on Cell C will get a vastly superior experience before LTE bands get saturated by the masses, all the more reason to look forward to it.:D

This is still not going to convince me to renew my contract. For the last year I've been stuck with call drop rates >60%, poor call quality and no data throughput in areas where I have full signal.

They've burnt their customers with their failed network and poor service and have fallen behind all the other operators including Telkom mobile.
