Cell C might not survive: report

Cell C CEO Jose dos Santos says that there’s a “strong possibility” that Cell C won’t survive, if certain takeovers and deals in the industry get regulatory approval.
 
Is CellC still a South African company, or is it mostly own by foreigners, like Vodacom?
 
Innovation is what makes companies great and survive not winging ,
The amount of negativity coming from CellC under the current CEO give the impression of a battler not a fighter .
Just my impression .
 
Its majority owned by Saudi Oger, so not really a South African company in terms of majority ownership.
 
The trouble is... how much of a competitive advantage do MTN and Voda really have, and how much of this is just Cell C not innovating. I get the feeling Telkom Mobile is being innovative atm, but then they also have a major advantage in their existing infrastructure and the fact that they're making money off the other two.
 
Not sure why anybody would want IS (NTT effectively) of Times Live to take over CellC

If CellC dies it will be because of three things:
[1] Fighting the wrong battles - going to court on Monday about a banner in an unsound motion while not dealing with the CTR issue which should be their legal focus
[2] Choosing to go for the broad (and perceived easy) money and picking low hanging fruit before growing their own orchard - things like seeking a VMNO market was not driven by a desire to build the industry but rather hoping for easy money
[3] Cartel behaviour by Vodacom and MTN on the arrival of CellC [MTN appears still today to have the destruction of CellC as an objective, based on a misguided view of how much room there is in the pond] and an inappropriate response to that behaviour. Right now it is in the vested interests of some players in the global industry to continue floating CellC into oblivion in order to lock down MTN (the money channelled to CellC


For CellC to survive they have to turn the tide and really revisit their 5 and 10 year strategy. And this is why the approach of the industry towards the CTR issue is so disgusting, there are mutually beneficial solutions for all concerned but there is a failure from the top executives to adapt and adopt.

Of course the other irony is that on the current path of things it is MTN and Vodacom shareholders who are loosing on the opportunity waste and Nedbank and FNB who are likely to be burnt by a collapse of CellC. So there really are 4 of the largest SA companies who have everything to gain by doing things right but either lack the foresight and vision or the courage to do so. But these very same executives whose fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders will be failed in watching CellC piddle down and collapse will take their multi-million rand bonuses. Also the collapse of CellC will be the catalyst for more regulatory intervention to the harm of MTN and Vodacom so they really are preparing their own poison.

The Vodacom acquisition of Neotel will not be the cause of the demise of CellC nor will a "lack of regulation" - bad regulation is deleterious to the industry. I am very keen to see the submissions CellC made on the Neotel application to ICASA.
 
Only in S.A. that companies see it as good practice to give bad publicity about themselves to their investors, clients and would be clients. Internationally this is a cause of major market fluctuations and loss of business and funds.

We really do need to get some self respect.

CellC is running the company into the ground with their dumb behavior.

The damage has been done with the banner outside the shopping mall, but to want to go to court about it, would be suicide. Instead, fix the problem and make the customer feel like a king/queen again!

Can't CellC's senior management see this, or maybe I am just more customer focused?
 
Why do we even care? Cell C will be dead in the water soon anyway, customer service levels + pricing wars = dead to the people...
