Cell C network issues following Vodacom migration

Numerous Cell C users have in recent weeks complained of network connectivity issues amid the operator’s migration of its contract and broadband customer base to Vodacom’s network.

The Cell C Downdetector page has reflected “Possible problems at Cell C” intermittently over the last few days, with a myriad of reports claiming bad or no connectivity for data, calls, and SMS services.

“Cell C has been down in my area for the last month and a half, where previously I had amazing coverage. I’m constantly on roaming data and people can’t get hold of me at all. This is unacceptable,” one user said.

I never had issues up until this 'roaming on Vodacom' was pushed out.

MTN was great for us, but now, since being forced to roam on Vodacom all our phones are having reception issues.

I have tried to manually select 'Cell C' and 'MTN' both say 'Forbidden'

The MTN 'roaming' worked flawlessly.

I guess I will be leaving Cell C for MTN now.

its a joke, constant dropped calls and no signal 99% of the time,

I had to buy Telkom and MTN sims due to this. MTN data and calls are surprisingly good, quick and clear...I think I shall stick with them.

My theory: It is Vodacon.
I have been a long term prepaid Cell C customer from 2007 on, never had problems with roaming on VC in the past. But mostly made use of the own Cell C tower nearby. Also been a long term data customer, their Giga 200 packages kept me going since 2013 somewhere.
Unfortunately cell C switched off the local tower late 2019. But roamng on MTN always showed up as Cell C and altough data speeds were very slow for some months but great again the last 6 weeks or so, never had this roaming issue.
So Telkom Mobile recently installed a new tower in this area, and it showed on my Dual SIM phone as that TM was NOT roaming, no R. So I bought a Telkom only prepaid data bundle, to test it out, which I never got to work. So apparently that tower is not working yet. After that my TM SIM went on/off, later completely off for almost 14 days. Whatever I tried, manual network search, Telkom SA roaming 2G, 3G or 4G forbidden, it failed. The SIM was just dead for almost two weeks, then suddenly came back to live, and works again.
Now VC is doing the same with Cell C customers roaming on their network. I never trust them. Might all be intentional.

Edit, addition : Agree, this reigning duopoly appears again to act like a cartel, trying to put the final nails in the coffin of the two smaller ones. Both of them, TM and CC did not do themselves a big favour, by making all kind of mistakes themselves.

At least their excellent prepaid data bundle 50Gb all time + 50GB nite, valid for 180 days, works still very well for me.

What a surprise! Why move to Vodacom in anyway, their network isn't what they advertise! Not a good move at all!! They can't even acknowledge there is problems

And the lack of customer service and the lack of internet service! Mtn is the king when it comes to network and even surprisingly telkom. The networks, such as these should be kept responsible for their ineptitude to service on all fronts.

As soon as they move my number to prepaid, i'm posting to Telkom, their prepaid voice and data bundles will be cheaper than my month to month post paid on cellc and the bonus is fantastic signal at the office and at home

My phone shows 4G+ for my FNB sim most of the time, although half the time I cannot do any internet based activity. Hopefully it gets better. When it works, it is fast.

"superior customer service" from Vodacom? What's that?
I've bee using a 4G sim since Vodacom first launched it, with little to no issues. For the past year i've been having only 2-3 bars of signal strength.
Something has to give because they cannot continue with their corrupt and thieving ways...
