Cell C network problems cause customer backlash

CellC, get your ass in gear, respond to these issues and attand to them, else, all the good work you have done is going to go down the toilet!

NB CellC, I have contacted you over 2 weekend ago to reactivate International Calling and... no response from you.
Get your act together! I am about to port 3 numbers from MTN but reading this makes me wonder.

Well with all the other service providers you can convert Airtime to Data bundles via the web. Cell C is the only one that does not allow you to do this.

Then vote with your wallet and use one of the other providers.

Was also keen to port, but having second thoughts now

I also experience the same issues from time to time. The phone will show 3g but no data is forthcoming. I found a quickfix for this. On the iPhone I just activate and deactivate Airplane mode. That seems the solve the problem. On the speedtest I need to disconnect and connect again. It does not happen often so overall I am satisfied with Cell C.

Had this issue over the weekend at my father's house. Had to disable and re-enable packet data for mobile networks to get things to work again, but it borked soon thereafter.

That is the only issue I've had recently. Overall it works for me.

But if their service do degrade to the point of uselessness, then it might be time to jump ship. Will have to wait and see what happens.

This actually sounds like the WCDMA near-far power swamping problem to me. Perhaps people should post their RSSI as well, because I don't think the "bars" on the dashboard software are very accurate.

Hero to Zero

Ive been happy with Cell C for the most part but in the last 2 months the data connection has been unusable at my home at night.

I am now using 8ta and wont be renewing my Cell C contract if they don't solve this soon.

Not that easy when you tie yourself up (in?) with one those [initially attractive] long term contracts. I think the issue is folks waiting for their contracts to expire with the other SPs and then jumping on the CellC bandwagon ... and then signing up for 2 years of a different headache.

If everyone was on prepaid and could 'vote with their wallets', a little lapse in concentration (i.e. service) from a SP like this would surely put them out of business within a matter of days.

I seem to have a similar problem as some of the other posters.

I've noticed that my GS-Note & GSII sometimes stops sending/receiving data.
When I check - I have good signal and 3G and I can make calls.
Turning Flight Mode on/off normally clears the problem.

I'm on MTN.

I wonder if it's a handset / OS related problem?

At home I have Cell-C data dongle and for 18 months all OK.
Had a problem when fu*!$rs stole cables inside the base station.
Took a few days for Cell-C to fix.
Otherwise very happy with Cell-C.

Stick to a mature network if you want more reliable throughput....

The "mature" network still gave me <1% throughput the last three times I ended up in Capetown. It is all about location location location as HideInLight noted.

I have not had too much issue with cell c.

These are some of the things i have noticed:

1. Signal is full, but cannot pull data - not very frequent and when it does happen outage is a few minutes at most
2. In places with lots of people e.g. cricket match, all traffic (voice and data) is almost non existent - always happens, outage is for the duration you in the busy place

The things i like - easy to check all your balances including data *101#
Easy to load data bundles *147#
The call rates are the best - and this makes up for the issues above.

I am having the exact same problem on vodacom, also only in the last 4 weeks or so.
Flight mode on/off also fixes the problem for a short while.

I used cell c, 8ta vaodacom in PE and they were good. In December i was in benoni and vodacom was on edge only and 8ta was running at full speed. Only way is to pick the best network in you area and hope that it is 8 ta.....lol

Cell C is up to sh|t in some areas due to congested towers. Total BS. I moved 3 contracts to Cell C and was very happy. Then I got my sister to get a voice contract and 12 month prepaid data sim. It's been horrible. She works and lives Illovo (near the Wanderers). The data speeds and voice quality is pathetic. Prepaid data sim is unusable due to low speeds (less than edge). How do we go about getting a refund?

Have this exact problem with vodacom.just thought that it was my cellphone. what also works is that in opera 4 you can do a 'connection test'.its found in settings.id be browsing, and all of a sudden, whilst still being connected, it stops transferring data.do the connection test and it goes again. before that i did the flightmode thing to get it to work again.

It's like the banks...they are all crap....just go with the best price and hope you don't run into issues :)
If you are after service then always remember this is Africa...

Exactly why I use Cell C. The past month or two have seen major issues with BBM, likely related to congestion on the network since their 99c per minute announcement. What do I do about it? Stick with 99c per minute on per second billing - at least I'm not being badly ripped off when a call is dropped and I have to call again.
