Cell C network problems cause customer backlash

my Cell has been terrible here in Stellenbosch. Customer care has been useless asking me to change devices and restart my pc.

I've had 2 weeks of pain on CellC in Nelspruit as well. I thought it was because of the area I live in, but one day it's better and the next it sucks beyond, so there's a definite issue occurring.

None of the above actually works at their call centre they should have people who are actually dedicated network engineers that can isolate the fault. example - Tell you which base station you connect 2 then u can work out how far it is from u etc but they never want to divulge such information

My biggest issue since I ported to Cell C at home where I live often I am unable to stay connected for longer than a minute on voice calls to other networks. This only happens when calling other networks even my own landline to test. Does not happen all the timebut when it does it does so all the time. So to have a 10 min conversation I have to call back about 15 times. It's anoying. The phone reports full signal strength and calls to other Cell C is fine. It also only happens in that area and not at work. Clearly there is a problem with routing to other networks in that area. Maybe they have a limit to how many to-other-network calls can be handled at a time and the network is comgested. However if it functions properly it should not cut people off that are already connected.

However trying to explain this to Cell C and actually getting them to investigate seems to be impossible. They refuse to escalate unless I try another phone and try another sim. I don't have another phone that takes a micro sim. Nor do I have another sim. I can get a prepaid one I suppose however I find it very unlikely to be my sim. Why does it work everywhere but home? Why only to other networks and only on some nights? The branch they sent me to were unble to give me a loan phone or test sim.

I also found a few places away from home which are near total dead spots in other cities. And as for 3G data sometimes there are short periods were it just dies totally for a few minutes in spots that nomrally function very well.

That beign said, I really want to stay with Cell C as their product offerings, price and value is very good. But they need to work on their network quality and their support. That's not to say that I did not have quality issues with MTN, however for now my hate for MTN, Vodacom outweigh's the quality issues on Cell C

This time. I want to be put on their 99c for real and was told that a sim swap will solve it ..... yeah right!!!! did sim swap and then was told I will still not be able to do it. if I didn't need the new micro sim for my galaxy s3 I would have literally burnt down their offices in sandton.

Didn't bother with getting a microsim, just cut the one I had to size and stuck it in.... no problems...

Cell C just dies in Durbanville roundabout 7pm, yet theres absolutely no issues in Goodwood close to N1 City. 8ta seems to be best in the Northern Suburbs, pity they can’t compete at the moment price wise.

Thinking I’d rather wait before Im forking anything over for that 200GB

Why only act on this now? The performance have been slowly degrading from about October last year. Data is now completely unusable at night for me.

Full H+ signal but no connection, have to switch back to Edge but sometimes that too doesn't work like last night. It's starting to be as useless as my MTN 3G data bundle contract on my Ipad, which is available for not more than half the month although they get paid the full amount monthly. I'm relatively new on CellC having ported from Vodacom as a result of the high prices. It's starting to feel like one has left a fuel guzzler that always runs for a low fuel consumption model that rarely starts. In Pretoria.

I chose Cell C Prepaid for my Tablet because they have the best data prices. Now I can not even use it as there is no way I can convert airtime to data on the Tablet (A lot of Tablets do not have USSD support to dial *147#). I am still waiting for Cell C for a solution.

HAve you checked under settings->cellular->sim applications or suchlike (added to the bottom of the page). There are USSD interaction style menu commands under there (speaking from memory, menu wording may not be 100% accurate) but have a look around there. Also the data balance in that menu broke on iOS 6.0 but seems to be semi working on iOS6.1, I can get a data balance but the amount owing is an alarming R178k or so!

BAck on topic, CellC not too bad in Plumstead, Cape Town, but very erratic, 800Kps - 3Mbps down depending on the wind direction. 8ta use to be good here 1-5Mbps (signal strength low, needed external antenna) but now gone to the dogs, too much contention imo. Lucky to get 300Kbps..

I really hope MyBroadband does a follow-up story on this issue, as it might put even more pressure on Cell C to actually hurry up with fixing their network. It's terrible at the moment.

Trouble is that this is sometimes local. You might be one of 10% having this kind of trouble related to oversubscribing in your area.

That said, this month has been a disaster for Cell C and Mweb. BIS has been bad! Related to their own APN no doubt.

My Cell C service is excellent... and when I call the callcentre I get answered in minutes and when I have a problem, it gets resolved. Maybe I am lucky, but I never had this with Vodacom, Virgin or 8.ta

Mine is still not working, I am contemplating porting back to Vodacom once my contract is up. :(

Oh, I've learned that contracts are bad.. because you only get good services in the last few months to encourage you to renew. Rest of the contract they don't care about you. Because, you can't go anywhere... but prepaid can leave anytime... so they treat you like royalty.

Contracts are bad because prepaid clients get better pricing for calls etc. Topups also give you extra benefits that contract clients don't get.... and with the price drops, contract clients don't benefit.
