Cell C - No signal? Impossible!

Hi,

A friend of mine went to Mabula Game lodge (just outside Bela Bela), and took his spare Cell C data sim with him.
Turns out that there is absolutely NO SIGNAL over there. That seems really odd as both vodacom and MTN have signal (albeit on EDGE speeds).

Does Cell C not have some option to 'roam' on mtn/vodacom if it doesn't get signal from its own towers?

I'm really considering moving to Cell C, but am worried about being completely out of touch when on holiday or not in a main city area.

Can anyone advise if maybe there is something set wrong, or if Cell C really can't get signal in many 'out-of-city' places?

Thanks!

Check out the coverage map - and if you can understand the Legend: All props to you.
Cos I can't decipher those darn colours.

EDIT: Well I figured out the Legend.
Click on the varying speeds to get a better idea of what's going on.

Bela Bela's meant to have Cell C Edge and National Roaming Cover.

You go on a relaxing holiday . . . with your cell phone in your pocket? Ha ha am I not lucky . . . (CellC defaults to Vodacom if no signal but you have to select the 'automatic' setting network)

EDGE speed on 3G connecton or EDGE connection type?
Check modem setting, if it is 3G-only, change it to 3G-prefered. Cell C will roam to Vodacom, but only on 2G (voice plus GPRS/EDGE data). If settings is 3G-only, modem will not find signal at all like in your case (assuming there is no Cell C coverage).
